Diary Thursday 11th October 2018 My first welfare meeting with my new advisor since being switched to the new system. The lady who saw me was quite pleasant, and as her computer crashed soon after I arrived, she did little but give me my next appointment for in two weeks time. I won't know how my finances are affected until my next payment date, the first on the new regime, on 31st October. For once Halloween will be genuinely scary for me I helped run the information stand again for our penultimate screening at the film festival, The Greatest Showman, which drew our biggest audience of the whole week. Diary Friday 12th October 2018 My complaints to welfare about efforts to pressure me into getting a Smart Phone gained me a letter of reply from the DWP, not surprisingly trying to sweep the whole incident under the carpet. They spoke to the advisor who told me to get the new phone (at the tax-payers expense) to which he claimed he was only advising me, not ordering me. He claims that I never told him I have a laptop. Apparently having my laptop right there fired up with the screen showing him my job search activity equals not telling him I already have such a devise. They are being what Margaret Thatcher used to call 'being economical with the truth'. The final night of our week long mental health awareness movie festival, screening A Fantastic Woman, which is a very good movie. I ran the stall and helped take down all our festival posters and desk displays etc with most of the spare material now in storage until next year's festival. A big thanks to everyone who helped with the events and all our lovely audience participants. It is always an honour to help run these events. I considered going to the pub for a beer after the screening but it was raining very heavily so I got the bus home instead. Youtube - trailer for A Fantastic Woman
Sebastián Lelio (Gloria) returns with a groundbreaking, captivating and deeply humane story about a trans woman’s fight for acceptance starring Daniela Vega....

That could totally fit into a Monty Python sketch: "You opening your laptop on my desk isn't really the same as telling me that you have one, now is it?" Gotta love the government, no matter what country.

@teamfreak16 exactly, the casuistry and blind rhetoric disregards the self evident information he saw with his own eyes

Your advisor sounds ridiculous, how could he not know that you have a laptop? At least you are not obliged to have the Smart Phone, it's better than nothing.

@arthurchappell It would have been more than annoying to be monitored all the time, this is abusing people.

When you mentioned Thatcher, it all came back to me, the rush of remembering my utter disdain of their lies which were meant to be truth. Glad you had fun with running the events too.
