Beware The Dinokonda

The snake creature in the picture above was named the Dinokonda by its creator who goes by Rachealmarie on Pixabay. I chose it to head up this post because to me the image represents how my missus sees every snake everywhere all the time.
Today, for the first time in a while, I convinced her to let me mow part of the yard while she trimmed the hedges. First I had to convince her that walking behind the self-propelled mower would be easier on my recovering hip than trimming the hedges, which is what she wanted me to do at first.
While I was mowing, I noticed Stripes, one of the front door cats, playing/fighting with a young black racer - a nonvenomous snake common around here - and stopped mowing to keep Stripes from getting bit and to keep him from hurting the snake. Black racers eat vermin that might try to invade the house.
My wife, of course, wanted to know why I didn't kill the deadly serpent, which in her eyes was huge. If it was 18" long (46cm) I would be surprised. I calmly explained to her that the poor little guy was just a baby, nonvenomous, and a good thing to have around. She huffed skeptically but went back to hedge trimming.
Are you afraid of snakes? Do you treat all snakes as venomous threats?

Yes, I have an insane snake phobia. I wigged out just reading this. Seriously.

@DWDavis - More than likely coming across a rattlesnake hiding in a bush while I was going to the dump with my dad when I was little. I've even been known to turn around while hiking or mountain biking just because of a snake on the trail, even though I get assurances that it's not dangerous. Ugh.

I haven't seen snakes in months here. We have a big black one that we've seen the past two summers.

@DWDavis yeah probably. It's odd we haven't seen any for months. Even earlier this year when we went for looking for them at the creek we didnr see any.

I am not bothered by them. Hubby can deal with them but dont like being near them. He blames it on where he was stationed at in Nam. I can understand that. We leave them alone but do have one cat that likes to eat them.

Thats how Jill was with the one I trapped in the door this summer. She couldnt decide what to do with it.
Moms cat that moved over here after Mom and Dad passed is the one that likes to eat them. Mom always hated snakes but not to the extent you say your wife does. Mom would kill them herself. Maybe that why Whitey started killing them as she stayed close to Mom and Dad when they were outside.

I'm not afraid of snakes, I had held several, what is common here are pythons and constrictors that could grow very large. Venomous ones bother me, especially the deadly Philippine cobra and sorry but I won't hesitate to kill or call the authorities if I find one.
