My first was The Jefferson Airplane. At the height of their career they did a free concert at the Grant Park Bandshell in Chicago.
My wife holds it over me that her first, and second, concert was a little band known as The Beatles.
So who was your first?

I really don't remember the first concert I went to but one that sticks out in my memory was a symphony concert I went to as a schoolboy. One of the items on the programme was Ravel's Bolero. As you may know, this is a piece which progressively gets faster and more furious until it ends up at the fastest tempo the orchestra can manage. What impressed me was that about two thirds of the way through, the conductor turned towards the audience, gave a shrug and then stood back as the orchestra accelerated the tempo all by itself to the end (and perfectly, of course).
I never went to pop concerts (I was more into theatre and films) but, in her youth, my wife did and one concert she often reminds people of (it may have been her first, I don't know) was to see Freddie and the Dreamers at the Winter Gardens in Weston-Super-Mare. The support band was a little group called The Beatles.

You and your wife were both lucky! My first concert was (I think) Creedence Clearwater Revival, but I had the pleasure of watching both the Boomtown Rats and Thin Lizzy before they made it big (over here at least).

@garysibi One of the best concerts I was at was with a guitarist you may not know across the water: Rory Gallagher. Electric and acoustic blues, he had a massive following in Ireland and did several world tours over the years, so his fame was not entirely confined to this small island. He did an amazing live show and was guaranteed to bring the house down.

@NormanDarlo I have heard of him and heard some of his music. He never achieved much success in the USA which is a shame.

I break "first concert" down into three categories:
My first-ever concert was the Grand Ole Opry in 1968.
My first non-country concert was Neil Sedaka in 1976.
My first rock concert was the Eagles, Steve Miller, and Eddie Money in 1978.

@garysibi — while the Opry technically still exists, it’s nothing like it was. I’m much happier having stood in the heat with my parents and brother in the line on Broadway waiting for the Ryman box office to open back in 1968 to see people like Ernest Tubb, Loretta Lynn, Red Foley, the Wilburn Brothers, etc. than to get online and order a grotesquely overpriced ticket for pop/rock nonsense.
Oops, you got me on a rant. Sorry about that.

None. I have never been to a concert. Yes, I am such a loser. But I have been to a play (Miss Saigon) when I was 14 years old.

My first concert (that I remember anyway) was to see country musician Daryle Singletary. It's unfortunate that he passed away this year. I was probably 10 years old or so when we saw him live.
