Nurses: Who’ll Take Care of Us

Now we all know who to call when we are sick. We go to a doctor or a nurse. You get pampered and treated like a baby and nurse into wellness. But being a nurse myself, I find getting sick very burdensome. And I feel alone and uncared for. This is what I’m feeling today as I dragged myself out of bed to go the the health clinic. Unlike normal people it seems like people take nurses who are sick forgranted thinking that we can take care of ourselves. But much just newsflash we are people too and want to be taken cared of specially when we are crook.

I have some friends who are nurses and they feel the same way. Are you better now?

Hi Manuela I wasn’t able to meet a doctor yesterday I met one today and I think I’m starting to feel a little relief. I wish I can sleep tonight. It’s been 2 days of altered sleep for me.

A nurse I am too... and I am sick for almost a week now. I self - medicate with paracetamol 600mgs, vaporizing ointment, and liberal amounts of fluids per orem. I can't just take antibiotics because I have a heart ailment. Check up is on Thursday

I just had my check up today apparently my ear canal is very much inflamed. I told the doctor to give me a strong pain killer as Advil does not help. And I haven’t slept well for 2 days now. She gave me aceclofenac and only twice a day. I don’t think she has empathy. I felt worst after seeing her but at least she started me on antibiotics. Now self medicating with ponstan and I’m taking it 1 gram and for the first time in a while I feel pain free.

So doctors and nurses show little sympathy for sick nurses? That is sad! They should get even better treatment so that they can recover fast.

@kepweng If nurses get better fast than they can do their job better and care for other people.

@flapiz Yes, they seem to have little sympathy for our hard-working nurses.

I would take care of you if we lived closer to each other! Somebody needs to nurse you back to good health. I'm sorry to hear that you're not feeling well. Please get better soon.

@moffittjc I’m still having ear pains but not the stabbing type. It does give me headaches. Sleep wise I’m better than when this started.

Thanks Jeff! If I still feel no relief by tomorrow, I will seek a second opinion. I haven’t slept well for 3 days in a row now.

@flapiz I know it's been a while since I've talked to you. How are you? Are you feeling any better, and are you sleeping any better?

You have a point, but I know some nurses who take care of us in the center don't just rely on themselves when it comes to not feeling well, they always go with the Doctor maybe because they are not confident enough to check themselves.

I usually manage my symptoms by myself but today I have such a terrible ear pain and I think I need a strong antibiotic. I can’t buy any without prescription so now I’m waiting here in the clinic feeling faint. I just want to cry.

Bless you for being a nurse. I think you're right. I think people assume that because someone is a nurse then they don't need help, because of the training. But you are equally deserving of help getting well. Hope you feel better soon

@flapiz True, just because you know what to do doesn't mean that you can always do it by yourself easily....

Even just a little help like booking doctor for me would have been really great but I had to do it all by myself. Sadly after four clinics I had to settle with no doctor for today as I was too faint to look for more

I can understand how you must feel. Sometimes, even if you are a nurse, you just need a nurse of your own.

In my case it would be my mum. But she’s far from me at the moment. She’s a boat ride away.
