If you noticed I am quite quiet these days. It's because I am attending a very special event here in Phuket, Thailand. The Vegetarian Festival. Here devotess self inflict themselves with sharp pointed objects. This was done withppout anesthesia all just by hands hands with the help of iodine and petroleum jelly. Oh boy, they dont feel the pain because during the process they were in trance-like state. They will join a procession from 8am to 10am with these stuff on their mouth and body, barefoot and under the heat of the sun. This is procession is done for 9 days, on the 9th Lunar month, to honor the 9 Emperor Gods of Taoism.

@ledante I am not a Taoist, neither a Chinese-Thai, so I don't know anything about it. You may be referring to the 8 Immortals. The scholar was Lu Tung-pin The kid was Han Hsiang-tsu. Your question led me read Taoism, and forgot that I have to sew bf's ripped towel. LOL the crippled by the way was Li T'ieh-kuai. I will read further of how these 9 Emperor Gods were connect to the Taoist beliefs I just know that they represent stars/
