Let's do the (food) time warp again: Beef Fudge

Got some extra roast beef sitting in the fridge? Have a hankering for fudge? Well then I've got a late sixties recipe just for you. One should be careful when researching recipes to discuss for a series such as this, because you never know what you are going to find. Like this horrid concoction that I discovered just a few minutes ago. Apparently this was a semi popular recipe in the late sixties and people still make and like it today. The finished fudgey treat incorporates ground roast beef, walnuts, marshmallow fluff and vanilla as well as the otjer ingredients you would use to make your normal fudge. I can't even begin to comprehend why someone would put roast beef in fudge to begin with, but I'm sure there was a reason behind it. I would for sure pass on this one. What about you?

Yes, it sounds gross to me, too. But I do have to remember that mince pies (now mostly dried fruit made into a jam-like filling for small pastry covered pies) used to be made from minced (=ground) beef with dried fruit added. Perhaps you saw this page (the recipe doesn't seem to include all the extras like walnuts and marshmallow). The taster's verdict was that it was delicious and didn't taste of beef at all!
So, this week I listened to some crazy people on the Mid-Century Menu Facebook page and added some leftover roast beef to fudge. This is Beef Fudge! 5.0 from 3 reviews Print Beef Fudge Author:&nbsp…

I don't care what they say, I'm not putting beef in fudge. I also think mincemeat pies are vile..

That sounds so odd! I bet the reason people put the two together is because of the sweet/ salty taste, the beef being salty and the fudge being sweet. Some people really like the extremes in taste.

Well Velveeta fudge is good, and chocolate candied bacon is good but this sounds so gross.
