Cactus in Bloom in my Neighbor's Yard

I'm having to drastically cut online time this week. I'm getting ready for a couple of houseguests this weekend. One is a former Sunday School pupil I had when she was in the sixth grade and I was about thirty. She will be bringing her mother whom I only met casually a couple of times while I was picking up Noreen for different activities. At the time her family owned a Chinese restaurant in the Los Angeles area. I'm definitely not ready. I've been sick or had a sinus headache almost every day for the last week. I will really be pushing myself clearing the guest room this next couple of days. I've been using the beds to sort files since Joey left in January and I had to do a revised tax return. By the time Noreen and her mom leave, I'll probably recuperate with my books for a couple of days. I am looking forward to the visit, but I'm not as young and energetic as I used to be. I told Noreen the house will be cluttered. That's just how it is. I hope to be back to posting more regularly when the pressure is off. The photo shows one of the cactus plants in my neighbor's newly xeriscaped yard. Does anyone know its name? I can't seem to find it identified as anything but cactus.

Don't forget they are coming to see you,.not to inspect the house. Try to enjoy their visit. Sorry I can't help with the cactus.

It gets even more exciting. Noreen told me last night that her mother has slight dementia. She sometimes wanders if she doesn't see Noreen. The doors to all our rooms are close together, and neither my husband nor I will be very familiar to her. My husband wears a CPAP mask and if she wanders into his room it would probably freak them both out.

@JudyEv It went really well. We did have time to talk after her mother was finally in bed for the evening. I also got a small preview of what it's like to deal with someone who has dementia. It was worth all the preparation. The bonus is that I now have two beds ready for future guests.

I doubt she'll mind. I bet she is just so happy to see you. I had to take an Allegra D the other day because my sinus headache was so bad I threw up. Too much information, I know. I just feel for you. Every day since I have taken one, unwilling to do a repeat!

I think this is a "Mohave Mound Cactus", I think they are pretty common in your area. I am sorry you have been sick, I wish you to get well soon.

If it were just Noreen I wouldn't worry so much about the house, but she's bringing her mother with dementia. I found that out last night. I'm really worried about how she will do with so much clutter around. At least the path to and in the house is clear for a wheelchair or walker. I had to cut back some jasmine and lamb's ears that were invading the walkway to the house. Have more I want to finish tomorrow, but I won't push myself. I do want to enjoy my guests.

@wolfgirl569 I think it's still fairly mild, but she has wandered when she's looking for Noreen. I will have them sleeping in the same room. Got the walkway to the path cleared of straying plants.

@bagarad A good path is the main thing. A lot depends on what stage of dementia her mother has. Have a good time.

We are expecting a guest this weekend....when she leaves I have 48 hours before two more guests arrive. When they depart I have less than 24 hours before I board an airplane to send a few days in Ontario. Do what you can, when you can. Mylot will wait.

Prickly Pear Cactus with Fruit
The flower does, but not the rest of it. I'm familiar with Prickly Pear and there's one of those in that yard, too, and another across the street.

It will be an interesting time for sure, since I just found out last night Noreen's mother has dementia. I'm wondering how she will do in a strange house that's still pretty cluttered.
