Do You Ask Guests To Remove Their Shoes?

When people visit you at home, do you ask them to take their shoes off when they come in. I used to do this before we moved and had a larger home, but now we live in a downstairs basement apartment and have virtually no visitors. I know when I go to someone else's home that has carpeting, I take my shoes off without being asked. I only wear Crocs, so it's simple to do.

if they have carpet it makes sense in a way and you should have a reasonable rack or something to stack them on. but it is silly here. our floors are stone tile and when their shoes get piled up at the doorway, you can just end up with a big pile mess

Since there is wooden floor at home, so I will ask the guests to take off their shoes when they come in. Actually it is no need for me to say it, they all do it when they see the shoes in the front door

Here in India it is a kind of ritual I could say - leaving the footwear at the door before entering

No, I don't and I hate it when they do. We know a Turkish family. When they visit us, they always take off their shoes. They can't help it. And when we go to them, we must take our shoes off. I find that it is enough to clean the soles of one's shoes properly.

When I moved to Canada I was surprised everyone takes off their shoes in any house. It was a surprise. We don't take off our shoes in our own house but our Canadian friends always leave their shoes at the door....

There is no need to tell them if they have removed their shoes, I always take off my shoes if I visit someone's house.

Yes. If it’s my friend or especially if it’s wet outside. I would hope they would think to do that on their own though!

I don't ask, but most do. They see that we don't track diet into our house. We also have a supply of slippers handy.

It used to be a tradition in the Philippines, without being told the visitors would leave their sandals or shoes outside the door. But the tradition has die down here though few still doing it.

No, I will not ask someone to remove his or her shoe when entering our house because he is our guest so it's going to be fine for me. But in my case, if I'm the visitor? I will take it off on my own. hehe

In my country no one takes their shoes off and it would be extremely rude to ask them to do so.

We rarely have visitors. I don't ask my fur kids to remove their shoes and I don't ask it of guests.
