What present do you get a 6-year-old girl?

Some people prefer to give money to the birthday person because they don't know what to get and it's easier that way. Plus, everyone appreciates money and won't say no to it. I'd assume anyway. And the person can get whatever he/she wants and won't potentially end up being stuck with a present he/she doesn't like. But giving money to kids is not a good thing. Sure, later, their parents can get them whatever they want and use the gift money to pay for it, but kids want actual presents. To come up to them, say "Happy Birthday!" and hand them an envelope won't put a huge smile on their faces... A gift, they can unwrap and then enjoy, will! My husband's niece just turned six and there will be a party for her this weekend. Need and want to get her a present but not sure what to get. Looking for suggestions, ideas... What present do you get a 6-year-old girl?

When my daughters were 6 they loved dress up, princesses, disney movies with a princess in it and anything artistic or making things like bracelets. =)

A bracelet making kit can be fun but wonder if it's appropriate for a 6-year-old.

@lovebuglena My 6 year olds were taught since they were little so it was never an issue here.

@LovingMyBabies I think we will leave that for when she is a little older. We ended up going with a doll who is meant to ride horses. And we got her a toy horse that's specifically for that doll. Hopefully, she will like it.

I remember I gifted my nephew a whole set of Harry Potter books. It was actually on his wish list. He ended up reading one book I think and the rest didn't even open.

I would maybe give money to a teenager if I had no clue what to give them, but giving money to a 6-year-old girl also seems strange to me. I'm not sure what you could give her, though. Does she have any hobbies? I liked to draw, and I got a lot of presents related to that.

Ended up getting her a horse riding doll and we got a horse (toy) to go along with it. Would have been nice if the horse actually did stuff like gallop and make noises, etc. but this one doesn't do that. Guess the girl will have to pretend...

I know what my kids like - but it's not necessarily what all kids like. If I didn't know what a kids' interests were, I'd ask the parents (but some parents would say don't worry about it - they like anything - which didn't help ). If I really didn't know, I'd get something that would occupy their brain and time . . . like a art/craft kit of some kind, drawing or building materials, puzzle books. And most times (unless I got something on a super deal), I will include a gift receipt so they can exchange if they want to.

We asked and the mother said she likes everything except princess stuff. Not much help there.

She is not my niece. It's my husband's niece. Her mom said she likes everything but princesses. I was surprised to hear that. What girl doesn't like princesses? Anyways, after spending a lot of time at a dept. store we ended up getting her a horse riding doll and a horse (toy).

I am not sure she is into Barbie Dolls but we gifted her another type of doll before and she seemed to enjoy it.
