Day 58 Luke 13:22-30 Luke 13:22 And he went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem. 23 Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them, 24 Strive to enter in at the straight gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able. 25 When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are: 26 Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets. 27 But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity. 28 There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out. 29 And they shall come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God. 30 And, behold, there are last which shall be first, and there are first which shall be last. Those who believe in heaven and hell want to go to heaven when they die. They look at their lives and the good and bad they did and hope the good outweighs the bad so they pass through the pearly gates of heaven. Someone asked Jesus who would be saved. Jesus’ answer surprised the person because every Jew thought they would go to heaven because they were and are God’s chosen people. However, Jesus told the person those who walked the narrow path would see heaven, everyone else would stand outside the gate seeking entrance. As Christians, you know the straight gate is the Word of God. When you accept Jesus as Savior and Lord, being born again, then you will see heaven. Otherwise, you will stand outside the gate. John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. 4 Nicodemus said unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born? 5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. (KJV) Jesus then told the young man people would accept him from the far reaches of the world to sit with him in his kingdom. The gospel of Jesus Christ is for everyone. You only need to accept it and believe that Jesus Christ is Lord, that he died for you, was buried, and rose again the third day, and is seated on the right hand of the Father making intercession for you. If you believe, you have a place at the table. If you don’t, you won’t. Revelation 19:7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honor to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. 8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. 9 And he said unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he said unto me, These are the true sayings of God. Do you have a place at the table? Let’s pray: Father, thank you for showing me salvation is for everyone, not just a few. Help me show your salvation to the world so they too will sit down with you in heaven. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen. Copyright © 19 October 2018 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay
