Why the Apathy of American Voters?

"Instead of cursing the darkness it would be better to light a candle" Maybe it's because they don't consider it their civic duty but merely a privilege bestow on them which they can choose to exercise or not? Then there is the reason given by a large segment of the population surveyed, that no matter which political party is in office, corruption and abuse of power remains the same. Voters turnout average a little over half of the qualified voters in US presidential elections and much less during the mid term polling. Will the coming election be different? The growing unpopularity of the present sitting president and his conservative policies which critics claim only benefited the rich continue to swell the ranks of liberals and the Democratic party. This midterm election is turning out to be a referendum on the Trump's administration. Political pundits say that low voters turnout traditionally benefit the Republicans while a higher turnout works for the Democrats. So why is the president personally going on the campaign trail for Republicans up for re-elections? Running scared. You may wonder why a non-US resident is so interested in the on going political skirmish in the United States? The answer is....This is better than bingeing on the TV series "House of Cards". I'm looking forward to the continuing saga of the "House of Trump", unless Mueller decides to cancel the series.

Non-Americans should be interested in what is going on in the USA. We're all intertwined now one way or the other.

I'm taking a risk with this post because I might get another "Butt out, it's only for US residents" response.

World is a global village now. So things are interwined. What happens in America does effect a non US resident.

Very true but unfortunately the US president is encouraging an "Isolationists" foreign policy.

@arunima25 The irony of Trump's trade war with China is that it benefits India. US products that will be pulled out of the Chinese market can be replace by Indian exports.

@josie_ Yeah democrats so weak and next time I hear someone complain but not teach I will be all in on that one because bunch of cowards over here and its neat you took the time when you did not have to. I call out democrats but they can arrest me just like republicans. Our country is not right and George Washington and JFK would be ashamed.

Voters suppression works for the Republicans because those being denied their voting rights are the youth, first time voters, and non-white ethnic groups.

@crossbones27 _We will just have to wait for the midterm results. It's just like a cliffhanger in a movie.

If that happens many late night talk show hosts would have to source their joke materials elsewhere and probably lose a lot of fans like me.

It's like a comedy show, everyone is laughing and I can't blame them. Kemp is purging hundreds of voters that have any clerical mistakes on their registration or that haven't voted in the last few elections. He's hoping to weed out all the Democrats possible. They are running scared with good reason I hope. .

@josie_ It's a conflict of interest, but that doesn't seem to matter.

As the person in charge of Georgia's election process while running for the governorship. Isn't that a conflict of interest? Kemp should at the very least hand over the job of overseeing the election to a neutral party.

So different in my country because the interest here is at high range. And why not when the voters are up again for money, because the inflation rate is so the amount of money should also be higher... vote buying rules and its like bidding, the politician who give higher amount gets the most beloved vote.

@ilocosboy _It is easier now to get real time news and cell phones can record it as events are happening. Voting frauds won't be so easy to commit.

Vote buying have also change, it goes with the present situation, and the price is getting higher. Social media is a big help to them-- to promote themselves and destroy the image of their oponents.

It seems many feel it is just a joke now. People we have spoken with say so many negative things about politicians, it is obvious why they are not interested.
