Water heater looked at on my sons birthday

Yesterday was my sons 11th birthday so as soon as he woke up he got to open his presents. It feels shocking to say he is 11. He always seems so much younger you me so so feel like wow how is he 11 already. My son and I spent his lunch break helping me figure out what lights in the house went to which label on the electrical fuse box. When my late husband put in a new fuse box he didn’t label anything. We turned every light on in the house then one by one shut off the fuse and searched the house for what went out. About 3:30 my daughters friends father came to look at my electrical box to see if there’s a space open to hook up an electric water heater if needed. While he was here he looked at the water heater for me. The geodes were out of line so he fixed that and pointed out that the nozzle my brother in law (a plumber and electrician) changed was the wrong size. He cleaned the nozzle off and my dad will put in a new one for me today. He started it up and no smoke at all! I was able to take a shower in my own home last night for the first time in a week. To be on the safe side I am shutting the water heater off so it won’t run when I’m sleeping or not home. At school my daughter got to see a concert and she wanted to see the full length show at 7. We were going to try to get home in time for her to watch it. But things kept popping up like just as we were getting in my van to go eat dinner at a Chinese buffet (my sons bday choice) I saw my boyfriends son walking down the hill to my house. Apparently he had detention and was coming to my house after which neither his father nor I were aware of. I drove him home which delayed us about 20 minutes or so. When we got home my parents came over and brought my son a present which was a guitar. He was really happy. He said “Isn’t it surprising how my best birthday gift ever didn’t come from you who knows me best but from them”. My daughter was jealous about the guitar, missing the concert, and didn’t have time to complete all her homework so she was being really miserable and mean. Right before I tucked my son into bed he asked me what heaven is like and said he doesn’t want to die and hopes he lives to be a bajillion years old. I knew he was sad about his father not being alive to celebrate with us the same way I was. I cried myself to sleep and thankfully the sciatica pain was less and after not sleeping for two nights I slept great! Photo is of his wrapped presents

Belated happy birthday to your son. I am so glad that your heater is fixed. I cannot understand how your brother in law could not realize he was putting the wrong size. Good idea to label the fuse, I have labeled everything in the electrical fuse box, it's easier.

@LadyDuck wow that is a huge cost difference that's awesome! I price around all the time as well. Living 35 minutes from big stores sometimes it's cheaper to buy online.

@LadyDuck having it labeled is a good idea I don't know why my late husband never did it but I have most of it figured out now. My brother in law being a plumber should have known better to be careful what size nozzle he out in. I stopped at two stores today and they didn't have the correct size nozzle. My father had to go a bit further to buy tires and was able to pick up two nozzles for me one for this year and one for have on hand for next year.

@shaggin I often buy online, it costs less than going around to find the piece I search. I had to change the small gas pump in my lawn mower. I searched around and they had to order it, it took 1 month and they said it would have costed from 15 to 30$. I checked Amazon and in 1 week I got two pieces for 1.69$.

@snowy22315 he had a great day. Can't say the same today though he's being obnoxious and argumentative and has already lost his PlayStation for the day as punishment.

@amadeo I do have one but nothing is labeled on it so I don't know if there would be room on it for an electric water heater if I needed to replace my fuel oil water heater.

@DianneN my dad is supposed to come turn in the lights in the garage and the old creamery so we can label what fuse they are on. I don't use either if them so I have no idea where the lights are inside.

@shaggin Your dad is such a nice man for doing that. My husband taught me how to use them when I'd blow a fuse.

I hope the water heater problem is solved. It amazes me at times what kids think about and it will make you cry. I am glad you slept well.
