It's not exactly what I had expected, but it did get close to a goal I set for myself this morning. It was chilly out there, only about 40 degrees. I didn't feel it with my layers on and with me walking. I took a different route this morning, sort of. My neighborhood is similar to a T in shape, not quite as there are a lot of side roads, and the T is more of a circle, but you get the gist. There are a few cul de sac roads that end in a dead end but most of the roads connect to each other and the main road of the neighborhood. This gives me a lot of options to walk without going too far into the neighborhood, which is considerably large. I'll go a slightly different route this evening when I get home from my evening walk. My Personal Goal : 2,500 steps and burning atleast 200 calories.

You can always walk around inside the home.

You wouldn't say that if you saw the condition of this house.

I wonder how many I burned yesterday. Although I also had McDonald's for lunch. So they probably cancelled each other out.

Yes, probably. Have you tried Mcdonald's Parfait? They are delicious. I had one the other day.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I don't like the parfaits. I've never really been a fan of parfaits. I did get free French fries with the trick or treat thing.

@snowy22315 Even just walking up the road and back is progress, ya know? How cold was it outside for you this morning?

I try to find little ways to encourage me. Posting my results here and on facebook helps. If I have music to listen to I tend to want to stay out for longer.

There are several ways to burn about 200 calories in under than one hour. Jumping rope 10 to 15 minutes (this is something I love). Climbing stairs 30 minutes. Walk briskly 45 minutes. Swimming 30 minutes. Biking 30 minutes. All things we can easily do.

You know, every year I say "this is the year that I am going to get myself a bike" but I never end up doing that. I really want to get a bike because I feel as if I would also cycle more than I do walk. I have this little pedal thing that my grandmother bought several years back. It's not a stationary bike, it's just a set of pedals on a metal frame. The problem with that is finding the right chair to sit in and that it only works the legs. Jumping Rope isn't a bad idea. I once had a hulla hoop and I would try to do that but I was not very good at it. All in all, for me atleast, the bike would be more sensible. I have hilly areas in my neighborhood that would work my leg and thigh muscles on a bike.

@LadyDuck Yes the pedals on a metal frame were more tiring for me. I didn't feel as if I got a good work out or exercise because it was a lot of work to do and not comfortable either. Perhaps it was just me, We used to have stationary exercise equipment. I would like to have a stationary bike again but there really is no room for it.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I also had a set of pedals on a metal frame, but it was not good. I have a stationary bike in the basement. The hula hop is a good idea, it's so long time that I do not use mine.

It's nice that you don't have to leave your neighborhood to walk.

I mean, I could if I was so inclined. Last year or the year before last I actually did that. I only walk around the neighborhood in the fall. There is a neighborhood across the street that almost tells it's own story. You walk in it and the further you go, the more opulent the houses are. It's like a secret little community for those more well off. One day I shall have to go all the way to the recreational center in my neighborhood. It has a beautiful little greenway that is lovely to walk.

Sounds like a good plan. I go to the YMCA daily and get my exercise inside. I will start walking outside once winter goes by. I'm not fond of being cold, or walking in the cold since my doctor took away my skis. When I had knee replacement he said no more skiing and I understand that. I used to love winter when I could ski but now I just want to go south for the winter..

I can understand you wanting to avoid winter because of that. We have gyms nearby but our closest YMCA is about 6 miles down the road. I've not been to it in ages. I don't like walking in the summer, it's too hot. I usually walk in the fall.

@ScribbledAdNauseum we were not doing any exercises when a Y opened in our area (about a 15 minute drive) We joined immediately and I've lost over 50 pounds of fat and my husband is also slim and trim now. It does cost some money but to us its well used.

@PainsOnSlate I know that the Y's down here used to let you pay based on your income. I always went with a friend on her sister's pass.

@m_audrey6788 Well, you could say that. However, it's more that I just want to be healthier.
