Men in Skirts

Apparently, My Lot, this is becoming a thing. I don't mean kilts (which I'm a big fan of!) I don't mean sarongs (big fan of that too) Or the goth looking "one legged" pant (Yup, I like that one, too) I mean, gauzey, flowy, hippy style skirts. My friend's son recently wanted to get into the look. At first it was shocking to his wife - but, fairly soon no one thought on it, one way or another. I saw it myself for the first time the hour I spent waiting for my dad to pick me up on a street corner in downtown Minneapolis. A man with a beard, masculine haircut, Carhart style jacket (for those who don't know, it's usually a tan "work" style jacket, very rugged and masculine looking thing.), work boots.... and a tie dyed skirt. So he wasn't trying to cross dress, or convince people he was a woman. He was just wearing a skirt. I think it's popular with the "Hipster" subset of culture, but what do I really know? So what do you think, Mylot? Should this trend take off? I think it's a very confident look for a man to pull off and I like when people are free enough to be themselves and do what they want, but I'm not sure that I "get" this look. Men in Skirts Youtube video, apparently this has been popular for awhile :
FASHION - This week: The return of men in skirts?

I hate it, but I'm not into hipster culture either. I think it looks stupid, but that's just me. The day @myklj999 does it is the day I accept it.

I agree history is filled with men in various forms of skirts, and I see nothing wrong with the kilt, love it. But for men to wear skirts, no thanks. I'll pass.

It's an odd look for sure. I "get" some of the other forms of "skirt" (like kilt, etc) more so.

I think it's a very confident look for a man to pull off and I like when people are free enough to be themselves and do what they want, but I'm not sure that I "get" this look. ---I totally agree with that. I don't think I could ever be that confident and even if I was confident about it, I still wouldn't get it but whatever people want to wear is fine with me. On a related fashion note, I'd like to say that I hope the clear pants trend for women takes off. Some girls spend a lot of money on underwear and it's terrible that they have to keep it hidden almost all the time! That wrong should be righted!

@FayeHazel This is a very classic, "Never Say Never," moment. If everyone else does it, I will, too. Cause I'm very brave and self-confident like that. Kilts are interesting...Very rich in history and tradition...and I suppose...Clear ones, though...Well, I am the bravest person who ever lived but I don't know if I'm that brave, though. In public, anyway. If it were a request for a private modeling session, I would. I don't know if I've ever told you but I have done stranger things.

@xander6464 But are you as brave as "Sir Robin"? ("Monty Python" reference) Tell you a truth. There's this yearly trivia game, 50 hours, hosted by the local college. The trivia writers are all local. Last year instead of playing on a team, I was at the phone bank answering phones. More fun. There's this trivia writer. What a jerk. He does a lot of speed rounds (double the questions in an hour) and a lot of audio rounds, like, they play an audio clip - and you have to tell where it's from. One year this total kneecap of a dude did an audio speed round of screaming from horror movies. I have never wanted to push someone down a flight of stairs so badly. Well fast forward to my phone bank experience - there's this guy wearing a kilt. He's pleasent enough. All of a sudden someone says that it's Gypsy. That's right. The trivia writer responsible for an hour of screaming audio clips. But the kilt charmed me. I only wanted to kick him in the shins, not push him down a flight of stairs. I would like to know about the stranger things you did lol

I personally don't find it appealing but people have their own choices. In our country men wear lungi as casual wear or night wear. That is more like a skirt but it covers your entire leg. With global influence youngsters have started with pyjamas and shorts but still there are few who prefer to wear lungi in night.

OH that's interesting. This lungi - is it just a bottom? Or is it more like a dress, or nightshirt (1 piece)? I think some of those can be nice looking

@FayeHazel Some community have it as their formal traditional attire. It is unstitched piece of cloth which you wrap around your waist like a skirt. It is only bottom and you can pair it with kurta/ shirt /T-shirt.

If I could afford everything that goes along with owning a kilt, I'd get one. Wear it with a pair of Docs. And a lot of my old goth friends did the goth skirt thing, but I have yet to see this!
