the NEEDLE prick

my prick

Since I am taking Coumadin, it is therefore expected that I have a prolonged clotting time, so when I am needle -pricked for the PTPA examination, the cotton ball dressing on the prick should stay for half an hour. This was what I had last Thursday. After an hour I looked into the prick to check if there was much blood or just a tinge. When I saw a tinge, I thought maybe my laboratory result is below normal. The result is within my normal range. I am glad. I guess I have to continue my dietary regimen of little or no dark green leafy vegetables. Are you scared of being needle - pricked for laboratory purposes?

@ridingbet Needles do not bother me but this year after all the questions I answered I felt the prick of the needle when the nurse gave me the flu shot but it was not bad.

there are some nurses who have 'heavy hands'. but i inject and insert intravenous catheters/cannulas so light you cannot even feel the prick.

so, you do not have laboratory tests when you visit your doctor?

not really. but they seem to be having a harder and harder time locating my veins. sometimes they have to try the right arm, too, so i end up with a cotton ball in both arms.

maybe your veins are not very visible that is why they have a hard time locating your veins

@hereandthere maybe your veins are not visible because you might not be doing hard work at home? just kidding. that is what they say-if the veins are not popping out and the skin is soft, the one with those hands do not do hard work at home. seriously, maybe your veins have 'shrunk' or you gained more muscles or weight?

I am unsure now what I'm afraid of - if it's the needle, or the pain or the blood.. lol I managed to be injected last year for my allergy. I thought it was already okay but after about 30 or 40 minutes, I felt pain and I got dizzy and almost passed out hihihi

Yes, you have to be very careful with Coumadin. Even bumping yourself can cause internal bruising. That happened to my father when he fell. As far as needles I don't enjoy them. I usually look away when I go for bloodwork.

that is true. even bumping can cause hematoma or reddish discoloration of the skin.
