Stranger Things sleepover/birthday party

My daughter's birthday was last month, but we finally had her birthday party with her friends this weekend. She wanted a Stranger Things theme since she loves the show so much (she's even dressing as one of the characters for Halloween), and Pinterest came to the rescue for me again. I got lots of ideas for how to do a kid's party with that kind of theme, plus I found lots of free printables that helped with the decorations. We decorated the family room with strings of Christmas lights and they played Stranger Things bingo while watching episodes of the show. I also had themed snacks available while they watched (Pringles, Nutty Buddy bars, chocolate pudding cups, trail mix, apples and bananas, Nilla Wafers). I found cupcake wrappers and cupcake toppers among the free printables, plus juice box wrappers that made them look like walkie talkies. I also decorated each cupcake with a tiny Eggo waffle (because you can't have a Stranger Things party without Eggos!). After they had their cupcakes, they played "Find Will and Barb". I set up part of the patio to look like the Upside Down and put a male and female plastic figurine inside a big tub of water beads (I also put a few glow sticks inside the tub to make it glowing and mysterious). They had to reach inside the "goo" and rescue the people without finding a Demogorgon (I put a few dinosaur figurines inside the tub to represent these). We made the girls turn off the TV by 11pm, but I know they were still awake at 1:30am. I guess that makes it a successful sleepover, right?

Of course they're tired and cranky today. I'm thinking a slightly earlier bedtime tonight to make sure my daughter catches up on sleep before school.

@spiderdust Pinterest is great, I have found so many ideas on there as well. Oh gross, I don't think I would have used the spaghetti either, you had a much better idea and I bet the glow sticks looked better coming through the beads lol

Thanks! I owe a lot of the ideas to Pinterest, although the water beads idea was mine (the suggestion I saw said to use overcooked and mushy spaghetti... I thought the water beads were a better idea!)

They seemed too, especially when they were hunting for Will and Barb.

"Strange Things" is like Chinese to me, I have no idea what this is, but I am glad you were able to organize a great party.

@spiderdust I see, we do not have Netflix, there is very little available here for the cost of $20 a month, not worth subscribing.

It's a TV series on Netflix which is inspired by movies from the 1980s, especially science fiction-horror movies (like E.T., Poltergeist, The Goonies, and Close Encounters of the Third Kind).

That's so nice. You already decorated with Christmas lights. Is it already Christmas in your place?
