Thrift store shopping and odd brake noises

Thursday by the time we got home from going to the buffet for my sons birthday we were to stuffed to eat cake so we had my parents and sister and her kids come over Friday night instead. Saturday I took my daughter and her friend shopping. We checked out 3 thrift stores which was what my daughter wanted to do most. The first one has nearly everything for $1 per item. We got 10 nice things for $10. We stopped at a rest area that was remodeled about two years ago. It was gorgeous. There was a lot of local attraction photos inside and the dining area was designed to look like a carousel. They even had a play area for kids a slide etc and a fenced in area for dogs with a hydrant and water pump. While we were driving there was a loud grinding sound that kept getting louder and louder every time I used the brakes to come to a complete stop. I was a bit nervous about it and then we saw the car just ahead of us smash into the back end of the truck in front of him. I’m so glad we weren’t the ones hit! We went to McDonalds for the girls to get some food. The cashier started to hand me a large mocha frappe and I said it wasn’t my order. He said it isn’t and I said “No, I wish”. He then handed it to me which was so unexpected and sweet! Today my dad came over and changed the water heater nozzle for me. My boyfriend, his son and dog came over today. We watched the second episode of “Haunting of Hill House”. His son is grounded because he keeps getting detention 1-2 times a week. He was bored so was purposely annoying everyone while his dad slept on the couch. It was to the point I was going to ask my boyfriend to leave because none of us could tolerate his son any longer when his son watched a movie. Photo is of the free frappe I got.

I got detention, in school suspension and out of school so many times. I just could not behave. I really wish I had had medication for ADHD.

Does his son have any real reason for being a pain? Doesnt sound like a kid I'd want to be around. That was sweet of the man to give you the drink. Those pictures you took were so cool.

@Courtlynn his son has ADHD and isn't medicated. I know when I was young I acted the same way and drove people nus. I feel if I had meds for it I would have done better in school and behaved better. I could not control myself at all. So I understand why his son acts the way he does and I blame it on his father for not getting him his medicine. The reason yesterday is he was bored because of being grounded so he was annoying everyone else to show how bored he was and that made me really angry. His dad bringing him here was stupid knowing the kids don't usually get along and only play video games then his son not being allowed to play video games or go on the computer and he only had a jacket so he couldn't go to the school to play without a coat. Why bringing here then falling asleep? So he didn't have to deal with him and could push him off on us probably!

@Courtlynn that was what I was planning to tell him if he said he was going to bring him over this weekend. He is fixing my brakes this weekend and told me I have to go there for him to do it (he can close his garage to stay warmer). His father asked me if his son can come here after school tomorrow until he gets home from work as it will save him time driving out to their house to get him and take him to the doctor. I said yes he can come here because I want that kid back on medicine lol. If I know ahead of time that his son is grounded with medicine or not I will ask him not to bring him here. Hopefully he will behave while he is here tomorrow if not I will make him sit on the couch and not be allowed to go room to room bugging anyone.

@shaggin I know most should be on meds when they have issues, but it is up to the parent, unless the state gets involved. i'd just tell him to not bring his son over when he's grounded, as long as hes not going to be on meds. feel so sorry for you,

Have your breaks checked, because this can be dangerous. The son of your boyfriend is a very annoying kid, he should do something to keep him quiet. I hope your heater works fine now.

@LadyDuck my boyfriend was supposed to look at them yesterday but he forgot to bring his jack. He said he will grab one today and do it. He said it could be something simple like a rock stuck in it. Best case scenario anyway.

@shaggin It is very possible that it's a rock stuck in it, let's hope is nothing serious.

@LadyDuck even if the brake is worn down and it needs a new one they are fairly cheap. I need a new vehicle by the end of the year when the inspection runs out but I want to be able to take this one to look for one as I have been so busy I slacked off on vehicle shopping.

That's great that your Dad helps you with car issues. I hope that person in the accident is okay.

@sallypup my dad was able to help change the nozzle on my water heater thankfully. My boyfriend will look at what is going on with my car brakes.

I hope there is nothing seriously wrong with your brakes. That's one thing I would always have checked out by a pro. May I ask if your boyfriend's son has a diagnosis? He sounds as if he needs a behavior plan in school and one to be followed at home.

@DianneN last year he was taking Adhd medicine but his father doesn't give it to him on weekends or during the summer. He actually did well over the summer without it for the first time in my opinion. But now that he is back in school it is obvious he needs it. He can't concentrate and is acting up. His dad finally said the other day after him getting detention twice that week that he was going to call to get him back into the doctor for meds. So he was grounded for the detentions. There was nothing for him to do here because he was grounded and no one wanted to play with him and his dad was sleeping. He used to do that often his father would get annoyed with him and bring him here. That just causes him to drive us all nuts when it's his fault for not giving him his medicine. My boyfriend is looking at the breaks for me today, He went to school to be a mechanic so he works on his own vehicles. He didn’t like it enough to do that job after he graduated though so he has always worked in machine shops.

@DianneN His son also has Oppositional Defiance Disorder. I usually take my vehicles to the mechanic so when my boyfriend offers to do anything and it saves me money I jump at the chance. I need a new vehicle by the end of the year so I don't want to put much money into it. $30 for a break pad to get me through 2 months would be worth it.

@shaggin I figured as much. Kids usually don't take it at home or during the summers, but definitely should at school. It helps so much. So nice that your bf is so handy and can figure out what is wrong with those breaks.

Lucky you first you avoid an accident and then you get a free frappe. That boy better get some discipline and fast otherwise there is going to be lots of trouble ahead.

@RasmaSandra what the kid really needs is his ADHD medicine. His dad didn't give it to him all summer and he did do pretty well but now that school is back on he is getting in trouble constantly! He wouldn't be grounded as much if he was given the medicine. I don't blame the kid for that I blame the father. But the boy enjoys annoying people and that gets on my nerves really bad. When he is grounded and can't do anything he shouldn't bring him here and fall asleep. What is the point of that you know.
