Day 61 Luke 14:7-11 Luke 14:7 And he put forth a parable to those which were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying unto them, 8 When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honorable man than thou be bidden of him; 9 And he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room. 10 But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee comes, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee. 11 For whosoever exalts himself shall be abased; and he that humbles himself shall be exalted. Has anyone asked you to give what you thought was your right to someone else? It can humble you in a hurry. However, if you go with a humble attitude, you will find honor among your peers. Jesus told a parable to those he dined with when he saw the way they seated themselves in the chief places at the table. He told them to humble themselves so they wouldn’t be shamed by their host when asked to move to another seat at the table. As Christians, you often have the same attitude as the Pharisees in the parable who took the higher seat as their right. You need to allow God to place you in the position he has for you. When you do, God will surprise you with the position of honor he has for you. Romans 12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. 4 For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: 5 So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. 6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; 7 Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teaches, on teaching; 8 Or he that exhorts, on exhortation: he that gives, let him do it with simplicity; he that rules, with diligence; he that shows mercy, with cheerfulness. 9 Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. 10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honor preferring one another; 11 Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; 12 Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; 13 Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality. 14 Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not. 15 Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep. 16 Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits. God has the perfect place for you. Allow him to place you in the position best suited for the gifts and purpose he has for you. Let’s pray: Father, help me see myself as you see me, and not elevate myself above your purpose for me. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen. Copyright © 22 October 2018 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay
