I Am So Sick of the Violence

The United States is the most violent nation in the world. It is heartbreaking. According to the BBC News on January 5, 2016 and CBS News on October 7, 2017: "Firearms were used to kill 13,286 people in the U.S. in 2015, excluding suicide. Approximately 1.4 million people have died from firearms in the U.S. between 1968 and 2011. This number includes all deaths resulting from a firearm, including suicides, homicides, and accidents. Compared to 22 other high-income nations, the U.S. gun-related murder rate is 25 times higher. Although it has half the population of the other 22 nations combined, the U.S. had 82 percent of all gun deaths, 90 percent of all women killed with guns, 91 percent of children under 14 and 92 percent of young people between ages 15 and 24 killed with guns." As if it is not bad enough what we are doing in our own nation, we also export our gun violence. According to a Foreign Policy report in "Intelligencer" dated February 23, 2018, the gun violence in the US is a problem for the entire world: "According to data from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, 73,684 firearms seized in Mexico and traced from 2009 to 2014 originated in the United States. Mexico is by no means the only destination for black-market American firearms. An investigation last year by RAND Europe and the University of Manchester found that nearly 60 percent of firearms listed for sale on the dark web were of U.S. origin. U.S. military-issue small arms, including M16 and M4 assault rifles as well as “grenade launchers, heavy machine guns, thermal sniper scopes and body armor,” are being sold via jihadist channels on the encrypted messaging app Telegram in a part of Syria controlled by Al Qaeda–affiliated militants." When is the United States going to get serious about the problem we have with weapons? When will we get reasonable gun laws, an assault weapon ban, universal background checks? When will we stop exporting these weapons to other countries, which can then use them against our own soldiers? When are we going to get smart?

I agree 100%. The Republicans and Trump don’t.

@NJChicaa - I agree, and it is such a shame that this is something the Republican Party will not address, even though most citizens in our country believe we need to do something about this problem.

@NJChicaa - That sounds crazy! I used to work in a high school. Any crazy kid could have easily overpowered me and taken a weapon away. Do we really want armed teachers walking around?

It is insane to continue this craziness, but I don't see it ever ending.

@DeborahDiane True, they sit there like dummies since Trump can help them push their false legislation through for more "trickle down" economic legislation and cut social programs.

@JamesHxstatic I agree. Our political system has gone put of control.

@JamesHxstatic - What really disturbs me is that it is not getting better. It has gotten worse under Trump. The hate speech he spews has spurred his followers to action. Look at how many of these shootings have been done by either young or middle age white males ... in Las Vegas, at Parkland, at the synagogue in Pittsburg. In fact, under Trump, we have had the worst mass shooting in US history (Las Vegas), the worst school shooting (Parkland), the worst massacre of Jews (Pittsburg). There are actions we could take to change things, but we need the Republican Party to work with the Democrats to make changes ... which they are unwilling to do.

No one seems to care even if they have jobs in high places from where they could do things. I too am tired of hearing about violence and shootings and all kinds of tragedies. What makes me really angry is when the attacks happen in places of worship like the terrible mass shooting at the synagog in Pittsburg.

@RasmaSandra - I agree. It all makes me angry. I have eight grandchildren. One was at a concert in Las Vegas the weekend before that deadly mass shooting. My grandkids go to school, go to movies, go to church and, in one case, to a synagogue. They cannot remain locked in their homes. It is horrible to me that they are growing up in the most violent country in the world, and we have a Congress in the pocket of the NRA and they refuse to do anything.

It is a horrible shame. The Republicans are too deep in the pockets of the NRA and don't get me started about that Trump.

@DianneN - You are so right. I just left a comment on one of your posts about Trump and how he is culpable in this because of his hateful rhetoric. And, the Republican connection to the NRA is outrageous. His suggestion that armed guards in the synagogue would have changed things is ridiculous. Because this man had an assault weapon, he was able to seriously injure four armed police officers who arrived on the scene. How many guards should be in our churches, synagogues, mosques and temples? Five or ten at every service? Should we attend religious services wearing bullet proof vests? Trump is insane.

@DianneN - I have felt ill whenever I have read a news story or seen our president on TV for the past two years. He almost never says anything that I consider thoughtful, respectful or intelligent. It is creepy! And the things he has done are unbelievably upsetting. Here in California, we can vote by mail, which I have done. In addition, we can check online to make sure our ballot was counted. I've done that, as has my husband and our friend Elizabeth Wallace, as well as many other friends and family members. I have also explained to other people on Facebook and Twitter how they can check online to make sure their mail-in ballots can be checked. It is all I can do!

@DeborahDiane I just saw your comment. I know. I know and truly understand. I feel so helpless, but am itching to cast my vote on November 6th here! His supporters must be insane, too! I'm still ill over those *ssh*les that are all for separating children from their parents.

@DeborahDiane I do not believe anything the BBC says. I am not sure that the United States I understand why you are so sick of the violence. There are very very bad people trying to take over the world and something has be done about it. People need to ban together against them and not trash others.

@Hannihar - If you look at the recent news in the United States, all of the mass shootings have been committed by white men, many of them Trump supporters. Right now, I feel that they are the biggest danger to me. Whenever I see a pickup truck or similar big gas guzzling vehicle with Trump stickers all over it, I stay as far away as possible. Those are the people I fear. They are scary and dangerous! I've had no problem with any other group of people.

@Hannihar - Millions of people in the United States blame Trump for what happened at the synagogue. You may not get all the news coverage there, but he has expressed a lot of hate speech at his rallies and this has inspired a number of people to commit hate crimes in the US. Since Trump was elected, membership in white supremacy groups like the neo-Nazis and KKK has soared to levels never seen before since the 1950s. I know you like him, but he is a dangerous man, and he is particularly dangerous to peace loving Americans. Some people actually compare what Trump is doing to what Hitler did when Hitler got millions of Germans to blindly follow his hateful messages. You may disagree with me, but I am one of tens of millions of people who feel this way in the United States. Many of us are terrified about what has been happening here, to the point that people are afraid to go anywhere there are groups of people ... churches, malls, movie theaters, schools, etc.

@DeborahDiane Are you blaming Trump? We have things that go on here in Israel but they are our enemies doing them?
