Glad I Saw 'Em. It's a musical series about musicians that I was lucky enough to see in concert, because they are now deceased, and I ain't gonna see them again. We are at #7: Lou Reed (1942-2013.) Talk about an epic day! I saw Lou Reed as headliner at the 1989 Werchter Festival in Werchter, Belgium, a day that included a lineup of Texas, Pixies, Tanita Tikaram, The Robert Cray Band, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Elvis Costello, R.E.M., and Joe Jackson. Reed was touring in support of his 1989 album, New York (A damn good record, by the way,) so his setlist naturally included a lot of that material, yet the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer didn't disappoint when it came to playing his classic material. From his days as frontman for the Velvet Underground to his decades-long solo career, Reed let the favorites fly. "White Light/White Heat," "Sweet Jane," "Heroin," "Vicious," "I Love You Suzanne," and, of course, "Walk on the Wild Side" were just a few of the tunes that held my focus during an "I can't believe I'm seeing this" evening. Check out that lineup again. Quite a few of those acts rank among my favorites. I cannot, however, imagine anyone other than Lou Reed headlining that day. It was, well, it was just right. @Ronrybs - My friends and I had been mountain biking. We were very obviously the only non-cowboys in the place, and they had to have seen me at the jukebox!

I hate when all the cool kids are in one spot and I am the outcast. Carry on just normal business but was a good guilt trip If I say so myself. Lou Reed is cool too. Out of my league in this post/

Fun fact: After quitting The Velvet Underground in August 1970, Lou Reed took a walk on the mild side, taking a job at his father's tax accounting firm as a typist. He returned to Rock 'n' Roll the following year when he signed a recording contract with RCA Records. What a song list you got to listen to!!!! And the rest of the lineup: Elvis, Robert Cray, wow what a concert that must have been...

I would have loved to have seen him back when he was playing CBGB. That would have been so cool.

I didn't go. I had plans to go with friends who had extra tickets, but then I did something to my back at work and wasn't sure if I'd be able to stand comfortably through the concert. I've regretted not going ever since.

I could totally understand missing out for that reason, because you kind of figure that you can always see him some other time. But yeah, that sucks.

You saw more famous folk in that one concert than I've seen in all the concerts I've ever attended. (My list is embarrassingly brief).
