Do you ever go to the cinema alone?

Some people think it is a bit creepy to go to the cinema to view a film if you are on your own. This is supposed to be a social/family activity and somebody sitting on their own might be thought to be a bit weird. I am not talking here about men in raincoats who go to a cinema to see something that is XXX rated - they are definitely creepy! I had in mind people who are single - maybe just for that evening - and just want to see the latest blockbuster. I have in the past been to cinemas on my own and thought nothing of it, but I understand from recent comments I have heard that this is not the done thing! Any thoughts?

The very last time I was in a cinema was with a bunch of relatives. But then some one was stalking and planning something to do with me. Too bad I was walking a lot faster than he thinks. Nope. that's never gonna happen to me ever.

Not a nice experience at all. There are some nasty people about who see cinemas as places to pick up unsuspecting young women (or boys).

I have never been to the cinemas alone. Not because I thought it was weird or creepy but just because I did not find the courage to venture into the cinema hall all alone. Wish to give it a try once.

I was looking back at my life and don't ever remember going to see a movie at a cinema alone. It's always been with my wife's family or friends. I have watched some movies on my phone or laptop alone but barely a handful.

Fair enough! It's not that easy to watch a movie on your phone in company!

@indexer You raise a good point. Single men and women are people too. I would actually prefer to go to see a film on my own since what I want to do is to SEE THE FILM THAT I’VE PAID GOOD MONEY TO WATCH. Perhaps my usual cinema companion will take note and leave the hand holding etc till we get home.

When first married I went with my wife to an old-fashioned cinema that had double seats in the back row expressly for the use of courting couples!

@xFiacre Well, there were certainly films being shown on the screen, but I have a funny feeling that some of the audience did not watch much of them!

Yes, I have been to cinemas on my own, and I don't find it weird at all. I enjoy alone time sometimes.

I've honestly never done this, but I don't think it would be weird to go to the cinema alone.

If you are happier on your own at the Cinema I can´t see why not. Take no notice and do your own thing.

There's no rule that going to movies is supposed to be social and one must be accompanied. I have gone to the vast majority of movies alone in my life.

I like to go to the cinema with someone so that I can enjoy it and have some discussion with my partner.

I've been to the cinema alone a handful of times, but always when travelling. I've always done it in company otherwise, but don't think it's particularly weird to go alone. I suppose everything is weird to some people!
