What a surprise, I never heard of this

Today my husband and I went to a few antiques stores trying to find places to sell some things my mother-in-law left us. I have never been in any of these places and found it so interesting. There were so many things that I grew up with. It brought back a lot of memories.
We went to one place that I was so surprised at as in order to go through the large store we had to put our purses in a locker and any other bags we had. There was a section with a lot of lockers and they all had a key on a wrist band sitting in the lock. When we put our things in the locker we took the key out.
I thought that was one of the best ideas I have seen in a long time. If any of you have been to an antique place you know how crowded the aisles are and there are so many things that can be accidentally hit with the big purses some people have. Not only that, the signs say if we break it we own it.
Has anyone else ever seen anything like this. I thought it was very unique.

I've never been to an antique store but it does sound interesting. Great idea to have lockers

I was very happy as I have big purses and they can easily hit merchandise and in the antique places there are some very expensive items. I wish they would do that in other stores to so I don't have to carry my purse around.

It is a good idea. Makes taking small items harder too.

No, never seen that idea. I have seen the break it you own it signs though. Just a thought, perhaps the owner was also concerned with someone shoplifting a small item?

I have seen those signs to. I really liked this as my purse is not small so it was great not leaving it in the car. The only problem I left my cell phone in the purse and when I couldn't find my husband I realized it. Now I know to keep it in my jeans.

@dgobucks226 Now I don't feel so bad as I thought it was an "old" age thing.

@ramapo17 I have the same problem sometimes. I will put it in my glovebox thinking I don't need it while shopping and sure enough, I leave it in the car when I get home.

I was amazed as I have never been in one before. There were so many things from my past that I saw in the stores. It was a good day thinking back of my past.

@Janet357 I know what you mean. I was in a museum with my daughter and grandson last summer and so many things were behind glass so people could not touch them. That is smart otherwise they would probably be ruined from so many hands on them.

I've never been in a place who does that but it's a good idea. I'd been in to so many antique/novelty/thrift/gift shops and they're nearly crowded almost always indeed. But I don't think the concept is possible around here but we do have baggage counters though -- no locks, just an employee.

It is the best way to prevent the antiques from being broken .Besides that ,it guards against some people walking off with the antiques.

Me to. there are a lot of expensive things in those stores. This was the first time I was in them. We were trying to find out how we could sell some of the things I have. They are interesting stores as I saw so much of my childhood in them.
