What's one squirrel more or less?

In a time when bombs were being mailed around the US and the political rhetoric got hotter as the election draws near, when the blood of people worshiping is shed by a murderous fool, why get upset over a squirrel? But I did. I was driving in our downtown area, running some errands when I saw a bushy tailed squirrel run across the street in the lane to my left. I slowed, since I would never purposely run over one of those little gray rodents. But the car coming in the opposite direction in that lane did not see (I hope) this little character and I witnessed him being run over and flipped into the air by the car's front tires, then flop, dead, to the ground. It happened so quickly. I did not burst into tears and have to pull over, but I did catch my breath and felt bad of the hapless little creature. I wondered why it mattered to me? Maybe it was just one more needless death in a week of needless deaths, one I witnessed, that brought them all to my mind at once.

I will do that. Look in the mirror and if a car is riding my bumper, I will have no choice but continue forward

I remember one time when I was a kid I was riding in the car with my mom and we were following my dad somewhere to drop off his truck. As we were driving an beautiful hawk flew in front of my dad's truck and then there was a flurry of feathers shot everywhere. It bothered me really bad that my dad had killed a bird, even though he didn't do it on purpose.

@JamesHxstatic I will say, I am completely surprised that with the plethora of squirrels around where I live that I haven't run over one yet. Unfortunately, with what seems like about 2 million of them around, the odds are that I will run one over someday, although I hope that day never happens.

@moffittjc I have had to hit my brakes more than once, but always look behind me first.

Oh, that would be hard to see, but it does happen when they misjudge speed.

@JamesHxstatic that is so so sad. I try to stop and will not kill the pigeons on the ground.

@JamesHxstatic Thanks. I like to watch out for the pigeons and cats that wander in my view.

Because you are an animal lover. I would feel the same if i were you. I feel bad seeing stray dogs go hungry all day long. And i just pass by them. I feel bad because i cannot feed them all. I just can those that come to our house,

Yes, that would be hard. I am glad there are no strays locally.

@JamesHxstatic does the government there pick stray dogs and put them in the shelter?

It probably was due to the accumulated things that you are talking about. I have no intention myself of ever running over a squirrel. I slow down for them. LOL

I would have been overwhelmed by seeing that, too. They do say it is wiser to try not to avoid hitting an animal if humans or other cars are nearby. I'd have to act pretty fast.

I would have been sad too. I guess for me it is such an innocent little creature, going about its business when suddenly its life is snuffed out.

it's very sorry for squirrels who are very poor, because they are run over by cars
