The path not taken

I suspect most of us have a path we choose in life, and a path we didn't choose. Sometimes when we look down the path we didn't choose we wonder what could have been. It isn't healthy to have those wistful distractions, but we all have them. I know because I have them myself. The things I didn't do and the impact that has had on me. First, I stopped teaching now nearly 30 years ago. Teaching was my first profession. I moved from that into the world of IT. I am still in the world of IT now, but I wonder about that path I didn't take. Would my life be different now, if I had stayed a teacher? Do you ever think about the choices you made and the paths you ended up on? What was your fork in the road?

@docandersen What ..... if I had stayed on in Paris and taken the new teaching job I was offered instead of returning to Ireland to pursue my studies to take up a different kind of work? What if my parents had stayed on in Africa instead off bringing me back to Ireland? Thankfully I’ll never know.

@DocAndersen That leaves it all wide open and mysterious - I like it that way.

I suspect it isn't about knowing it is about wondering.

@xFiacre It is, as my grandfather always said: "what you want to do!" I fully support both ways. Just curious what other people do!

Life has a way of placing us where we really need to be. Have no regrets. If you are a teacher, why do you need a classroom. Look around you. Those who need to learn from you are all around you waiting for a lesson. If you run into a stubborn student, move a grain of sand. There will come a time after enough sand has been moved that they will see.

But wonder is what makes us, questions are what we seek answers for...
