Relaxing weekend for me but not for my boyfriend

The only thing my son and I had to do over the weekend was study for a big history test. It covers the 4 units we learned this quarter. It was a lot to learn so we needed the few days to study! My father in law stopped by to visit the kids and I. He told me that he feels good and he does look good compared to the last time I saw him. But he is in stage 2 kidney failure. I asked if he can take medicine for it but he can’t. He had to just try to get his diabetes under control by eating healthy. He does take insulin as well but he never changed his diet or stopped drinking which his doctor told him to do the first time he had cancer. I made Bean and corn quesadillas for dinner. It was a yummy way to spice up refried beans. When my father in law was here we were talking about what he learned in school and we said the lesson my son just did mentioned Blackbeard. My father in law said how awful pirates were and asked if we ever saw “Pirates of the Caribbean”. I had watched the first one “The curse of the black pearl” with my sons father at the cinema in 2003. So before bed my son sat down with me and we watched it together! He rarely ever watches movies and I as happy to do this with him. We didn’t have much groceries to get so we slipped going shopping this weekend. My daughter went to her friends house for a few hours on Friday and Sunday. While I was relaxing and reading books and enjoying not having to do anything my boyfriend was having a rough weekend. Saturday he took the two beagles hunting. One took off and he spent well past dark looking for him on the woods. He got up the next day and went looking for him and the other dog ran off. He spent all day looking for them and finally about 8 pm he found the one. This morning he took off work and went out again in the rain looking for the one beagle. He could find him and his lab got into a fight with a porcupine. On his way back to his truck he finally found the dog that was missing since Saturday. He told me he will need my help later with the lab. I faint at blood or watching people in pain so I’m not sure how good of a help I will be.

And that is why I walk Harley on a leash! He is the rescue beagle I have, they do not mind in the woods! The only thing Harley will do is answer me when I call, I can hear where he is at, sneak up and get him, in the blackberry bushes and poison oak.....

@andriaperry my dog gets walked in a leash as well. At my boyfriend's house and if I am out in the woods I take her leash off. She stays within site of me she is a scaredy cat but that's good for me so she doesn't run off. His beagels are used for hunting. They live in a kennel all week so if I were them I would run off as well when I could. Probably decided to come back today because he was hungry.

Oh, my! I could never trust any of our dogs to come when called, but glad your boyfriend found them. I hope the lab wasn't seriously injured by the porcupine. Ouch!!!

@DianneN it takes a lot of training to get them to learn to obey to come when called. I am still working on it with my girl but she isn't off a leash much to give her time to learn it. The road I live in is dangerous and I'd rather keep her on a leash and alive then risk her daring across the road to see my father or nephew etc.

@shaggin I don't blame you. We always kept our trained dogs on leashes, because they never obeyed their commands. lol

@bunnybon7 The first time he insisted she was in heat. For such a smart guy sometimes he is really dumb !

@bunnybon7 nope. The medicine I gave her helped but then he said she was itching like crazy and allergic to it so he stopped giving it to her. She's been fine since but my guess is another month and it will come back. He will have no medicine then and I will refuse to go there or him come here until he takes her to the vet if he doesn't. It's filthy to allow her to walk all over his carpets, furniture and bedding that way.

I liked the first Pirates of the Caribbean, in my opinion it has been the best of the series. The beagles are nice dogs, but they tend to be too much independent. I am sorry about his lab, a porcupine is nothing nice to meet.

I was kind of hoping my son would want to watch the rest of the movies with me but he doesn't want to so I likely won't watch the other ones either. I haven't really been around beagels before but they seem to be very nice dogs. Porcupines are really cute but not good to encounter to closely.

@shaggin Beagles are really sweet dogs, but they have an hunting instinct and they run away easily.

Glad the dogs were found. I guess that's an occupational hazard for hunters who have dogs.

@JudyEv he hasn't had them long and hasn't had much time to train them with working and it getting dark earlier. Personally I think they just want to be able to run around and not cooped up in a kennel all the time. So when they get that freedom in the woods they won't want to come back. He probably only allowed himself to be found because he was hungry I think.

Oh yikes..I have had hunting dogs show up here half starved well after the season. They have obviously gotten lost from the pack and were missing. I am hoping they eventually got re united with their owner. I always fed them and called animal control.

@snowy22315 aww that is so sad At least my boyfriend didn't quit and kept going back every hour of daylight and into the dark to try to find them. He talked to people living all up and down the road to have them contact him if they saw him. I think he was enjoying his freedom and decided to allow himself to be found once he got hungry enough.

@Tina30219 it had to be pretty awful weekend out searching in the rain all day every day. He said it wasn't too bad though because they killed 6 phesants. I guess if they are used to that awful weather while hunting then it wouldn't be as unbearable as it would be for me. I won't go out in the rain or snow unless I absolutely have to.

@jstory07 they take them off their leashes in the game lands when hunting. The dogs run through the woods and chase the birds who then fly up in the air so the hunters can shoot them. Same with rabbits. I don't like hunting but he does.

@Courtlynn I remember watching it in the theater all those years ago and thinking it was really good. Watching it last night I didn't like it as much. I am curious about the end ones but my son doesn't want to watch the so I won't be either.

@nela13 I didn't ask specifically. He said hit by a porcupine is how he referred it. The dog probably got close and barking at it and the porcupine probably swing around and her with it's tail. He didn't need me to go out there he got them all out of the dog on his own thankfully so it must not have been as bad as it could have been.

@shaggin I was surprised because he took good money for old chairs. We do not like to keep things we do not use for a long time.
