Doctor's appointment today

The doctor just barely looked at Bob. He did ask him how he was feeling. He asked if he had been bleeding. He answered some questions about a possible surgical remedy for some of this problem. Next week we will try to have the catheter out again. I insisted that they weigh him. No one has weighed him since August. He has lost twelve pounds in two months. Between him being so low on his hemoglobin, and loosing weight he cannot afford to, I told him it is no wonder that he is tired and needs naps.He was thin to begin with. While we shopped today he visited with many people that he used to see when he worked. He is hungry for the social aspect of working. He misses people. He is not an old grouch like me.

Tony like to be social too, he wants to go fishing and hunting but I will tell ya, when someone is sick all those friends disappear that used to line up to go "with" Tony fishing or hunting. Me? I don`t care, I can stay home for weeks and never bother me.

I wish Bob had someone to fish and hunt with, or the energy to do so. Our friend Eddie showed us the spot on the river he and his family bought when it came to auction. He says Bob is welcome to use it, but Bob would rather go when there is actually someone there. It was a long, cute story Eddie told.

The doctor was not really helping, this is my opinion. They need to weight him, he needs to eat more. My husband is now extremely thin. There is nothing wrong, but he eats too little and he feels cold all the time, I am not surprised.

Yes, when they lose too much weight they feel cold. Bob says he was always underweight. As a young person they tried to fatten him with milk shakes and egg nog. He just did not gain. He has lost a lot of muscle. The doctor encourages him to continue bowling, even if he has surgery. The other doctor he had for primary took him off one of the medicines that he says kills your appetite. I am sorry your husband has gotten too thin as well.

@LadyDuck You do not want excess fat. Muscle is a good thing to gain. If you do not have some reserves of weight, it is harder to recover.

@GardenGerty My husband has also been underweight since he was young (I have always been too). He has not lost muscles because he exercises. I try to convince him to eat more, he says he is fine how he is, I do not insist, I am also not a fan of gaining weight.

I bet he feels cold often as well being lower weight and low hemoglobin. The doctor weighs me every darn month when I go in for refills on my anti-depressants. No idea why really I've been about the same weight since high school.

Anti depressants can make you gain or lose weight. It might even be a first clue if they stop working well. They also are dosed somewhat according to your weight.

Yes, we hope that one more week of keeping fluids up and being very careful will allow the healing needed for him to have it done with.

So strange that this is always the case. One will want to socialise and the other prefers their own company. I am the social kind. Is there no way his hemoglobin can be raised?

He is eating healthy foods, that is the general treatment. Foods that are high in iron, including red meat. If he takes iron supplements he is prone to digestive issues that then make his other problem worse. I do have him taking B 12 which also helps with anemia.

The doctor was useless as many times they are. They just like to collect their big checks from the government. My new rheumatologist did NOT do his job properly last week. But I am sure he was well paid for it.

I am sorry. I think that there is not much to do for Bob right now. He needs to heal. I am just upset that they are not weighing him. He has been to one doctor or another or an ER or two for a total of at least six times. No one weighs him, but they ask if he has had unexpected weight loss.

@GardenGerty I'm like you. I love my alone time and don't like anyone infringing on MY time. Yet, I will drop everything if anyone asks, and they don't need to twist my arm about it either.

Twelve pounds in 2 months is a very large amount in weight loss, maybe he needs nutrition so that his body weight improves faster

Well, one doctor said taking vitamins can kill your appetite, and so we stopped those for now. I insist that he should eat three full meals daily and some snacks. He needs to build up muscle as well.

When I was younger I was social. My first husband was not and neither of my kids really are overly social. They are both very nice, but content with their own thoughts, etc. They like to read.

I hope he continues to mend. My hubby has talked about when he isn't working any more. He doesn't think people will want to interact outside of the work place. This is one of the reasons why we plan to move for retirement years; we need to move where there are more opportunities for socialization.

That is very smart. I like where we are, and hubby said he did as well, but it is very isolated as far as jobs, social, or even shopping.

He does not have the appetitie. We did have some very good burgers and fries yesterday at Hardees in a truck stop. I normally do not even like fries, but these were very good.

they should check everything before suggesting something. The weight the blood theh sugar level and all. Maybe you need to look for a second opinion.

This urologist is our second opinion. We are, however, looking for a new primary care. He also has a heart appointment next month.

What I see in hospitals is that they weigh you and take your blood pressure before they can even start the treatment

In the Emergency room they took his vitals, blood pressure and temperature, but did not weigh him. At the urologist, they did blood pressure and temperature, but I had to ask for a weight. At his primary whom he has not seen since August he was always weighed and measured first.

@GardenGerty I see hospitals here that you are weighed and blood pressure measured before you are treated
