Shopping Cart Driving

**RANT**
Do any of you know if the rules of the road apply to the shopping aisles? Lately ive been getting irritated by people who dont know how to handle thier shopping cart in the aisles. Most are made with enough room for two carts to pass through.
Why do some people go down the middle knowing your coming in thier direction and will still refuse to move over? I say excuse me, but still you dont move to the side, you just look at me blankly and walk away from your cart. Then when I move it to the side you start to lecture me as to how I shouldve asked first before touching your cart!
You know I hate it when a person all of a sudden blocks the aisle by parking their cart horizontally across the aisle when theres people trying to get through. I especially hate this when its close to the entrance of the store, creating a bottle neck of people with carts trying to start thier shopping experience. Why cant you park alongside the aisle, to the side, in order to let others pass by.
Quit blocking the aisles with your carts when you are gossiping with your BFF, its not a social store, its a shopping store! Move out of the way into a larger area. If you leave your cart unattended for a long period of time, expect it to get repurposed.
Why do you let your small diminutive child push the cart when they can barely reach the handle? All the child does is cause a back up of people trying to get around you while your child is bumping into shelves knocking stuff over (which you wont pick up), running over the backs of peoples shoes/ankles (not apologizing), bumping into others carts (you ignore it), creating a frustrating situation for all of us.
All I ask for is that you treat your cart in the store as if you were driving your car on the road. Stay in your lane, move over for faster traffic, dont block the flow of carts and dont treat it like a demolition derby.
Rant over, my mind is now relaxed :)

@plethos Sorry my friend but this a lost cause. It's a wonder that some folk don't bring a picnic with them and just sit down in the aisle oblivious to all that's going on around them. And it's really so simple - just up one side and down the other then your out and home, but no. No, no, no. The horizontal parking irritates me no end. WHY? Just WHY would anyone do that? And Christmas, Oh Christmas, when they all meet up beside the beside the frozen peas and spend half an hour yakking away about absolutely nothing just like they did last year. One innovation I would like to see introduced would be to reserve Thursdays for male shoppers who would arrive, get what they wanted and go home in total silence, and in orderly fashion. It could all be over in an hour for the male population.

@Plethos What I have noticed is women leaving their men folk in charge of the cart in a quiet aisle while they go a-foraging and he’d better not move from his spot. I find the the toilet paper aisle is usually the quietest and I hang out there with the other haggard looking men when it all gets too much for me.

This rant is shared by thousands of shoppers. We just don't have the solution for it. Other than yelling, "Get out of my way!!!!"

It only takes one oblivious goof ball to ruin the day for everyone else. Oh, and it is even worse on Social Security Day, or if the store has a Senior Discount Day.

YESSSSSSSS. Most people move their carts for me if I need to see or get something, so that's not a major issue for me. It's the ones who either block the aisle socializing that bug me, or my favorite.... the ones who nearly hit into me because they weren't actually watching where they were going. I mean, accidents happen, but I mean the ones who are walking nonstop with their cart while facing another direction. Place the cart on the side for a minute and look at what you need to before you knock into me. I'm sure getting whacked with a cart isn't gonna feel good.
And I sometimes think "You don't "own the road" just because you have a cart." I don't use a cart unless I really need to, like if it's a lot of stuff or heavier stuff. Otherwise, I either carry it on my own or get a basket.

This is so very true. Happens a lot. I hate it when people bump into you with their shopping cart. Can't they see where they are going? And then there are people that block the aisles and they know that you are trying to get through yet they will stand there staring at the shelf for a while or chatting with someone as if you don't exist. And how about people stealing your shopping cart, perhaps accidentally? That's been done. And they don't even apologize for that. Maybe there should be shopping cart police who give out tickets to those that do not behave the way they should.

I understand you ranting about this. Fortunately, I don't see much of such behavior in the stores around here. Then again, I am very large and have been told my "you're annoying me" look can make people's blood run cold, so they are more likely to get out of my way.

For this reason, I chose to do what I continue to do even here in Florida. The aisles in supermarkets in Riga Latvia can get so crowded that you cannot possibly get through and wind up trying to maneuver the best you can. I stopped going and got my groceries delivered. As soon as I settled in my new place I found a supermarket that delivers. This works best for me besides I am only one person and a couple of times a month I get some fresh groceries and have everything else at home.

If your trolley is in my way in the supermarket, I WILL move it. Like the cinema, supermarkets give me super confidence!

The store should posts about the etiquette of holding and driving the cart. That's true its irritating these senseless people who don't care about other people's situation.
