Corduroy Trouble

So my sister decided to buy me this vintage corduroy skirt for my birthday and I loved it. I was prancing with it yesterday. Since it was pricey before I headed to the laundromat I checked the care instructions. It only said to wash with similar colours and to tumble dry on low setting but I was worried the laundromat lady would mess it up. I’ve never had corduroy before and I don’t want to ruin it. I ended up hand washing it and I don’t even know if I did well. Anyhow any corduroy owners here? Can I actually just treat it like normal clothes and disregard the care label? You know how they get too overly protective sometimes.

My kids had corduroy overalls but they just went in the wash with everything else. I don't think you need to do anything too special.

Thank you Judy! You’re a life saver! Just thinking about hand washing it for life made me not want to ever wear it again. Can go in the dryer too?

@JudyEv Cause I don’t normally do my washing I send it to the laundromat so today I had to hand wash it cause I was scared to ruin it.

@flapiz Perhaps the lady at the laundromat would know whether it was safe to dry it in the dryer.

I have no idea as I usually just wash everything together.

On my next laundry visit I’ll pop it in. It’s becoming my favourite outfit at the moment.

I owned corduroy work pants before, and I washed them along with everything else. I didn't take any special care precautions just because they were corduroy, I just threw them in with everything else.

@moffittjc I love it. It’s my favourite outfit at the moment. But I’m not sure if it’s only because it’s new.

@flapiz Corduroy is one of those fabrics that people (at least here in the US) seem to have a love-hate relationship with. It keeps coming and going in style. People either love it or hate it. I don't really have a preference either way, but one thing I didn't like was when corduroy pants came back into style. I never really liked wearing corduroy pants, but other than that I didn't mind the fabric that much.

I don't have any corduroy but I guess you have to invert it inside out if you have it washed it at the washing machine just like socks which we invert inside out before throwing them into the machine.

Sorry I'm not into buying clothes that are branded. Well, good luck on how you carry them.

I am not good at taking care of clothes branded or not. But this is a birthday gift so I want it to last long.

I've had cord slacks and never had an issue when it came to washing. Its not like silk.

Thanks Lenore. You saved me a lifetime of hand washing. Next time I’ll just wash it like my other clothes.

Do you happen to know how to take care of it? Have you had one before?
