Laughter is the Best Medicine

I have always heard that laughter is the best medicine. As the years go by I agree more and more with that statement. No matter how bad your situation is, if you can find joy and laughter along the way, you can get through anything. I have read that researchers aren't sure if it's actually the act of laughing that makes people feel better. A good sense of humor, a positive attitude, and the support of friends and family might play a role, too. We change physiologically when we laugh. We stretch muscles throughout our face and body, our pulse and blood pressure go up, and we breathe faster, sending more oxygen to our tissues. So laughter has to be good for us. I agree with you to a certain extent. Continually laughing people get on my nerves. Too much is too much.

Well too much laughing for the silliest things is not pleasant to hear for others.

@marlina Exactly, that is why moderation is the key.

@caroldm I’ve laughed a lot tonight and it was very bad medicine because yesterday I strained a lot of muscles that we only use while vomiting, around the chest and shoulders, and they hurt like crazy when I laugh now. So I’m postponing humour till tomorrow by which time I should be back to normal.

@CarolDM When you don’t hurl frequently those muscles get out of shape. Maybe I should get food poisoning more often so that I’ll vomit more often and then I’ll be fit enough.

I have a slightly skewed sense of humour. I find things hilarious, but don't always dare to share them with others. Mostly I think I have a positive attitude...but every now and again I will take time out for a short pity party.

A dry sense of humor perhaps? Our attitudes is what is so important. We all know of the pity parties.

I am happy and contented because I know the good and bad alternate, so I just take life as it is. I don't laugh out aloud though but smile a lot and enjoy self-deprecating jokes with friends - siva

I agree to have a positive attitude, to have a good laughter is fine, but being realistic is important. We still have an old Latin saying in Italy "Risus abundat in ore stultorum" (surely @MALUSE knows it). It means laughter abounds in the mouth of fools.

Laughter also increases the endorphins @CarolDm ; which is a good thing. If I didn't have a sense of humor; I'd be a nut-case by now.

Humans have been given the capacity to laugh for some reason and these are the reasons.

I'm the kinda person that loves to laugh and to make others laugh as well, and it does make a person feel better when you get them going.

Laughter is important, but I don't think it's normal to laugh without reasons.

I do agree. Sharing laughter with others is what counts, I think, more than laughing while reading or looking at something funny alone. Despite some of the other comments, I think the ability to see humour even in a dark situation makes it more bearable.
