Today, November 11, is Veterans Day. Veterans Day is a time for us to pay our respects to those who have served. For one day, we stand united in respect for you, our veterans. Veterans Day is intended to honor and thank all military personnel who served the United States in all wars, particularly living veterans. It is marked by parades and church services and in many places the American flag is hung at half mast. A period of silence lasting two minutes may be held at 11am. Some schools are closed on Veterans Day, while others do not close, but choose to mark the occasion with special assemblies or other activities. For more than 60 years, the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) has honored America's fallen heroes by placing American flags at gravesites for service members buried at both Arlington National Cemetery and the U.S. Soldiers' and Airmen's Home National Cemetery just prior to the Memorial Day weekend. This tradition, known as 'Flags in,' has been conducted annually since The Old Guard was designated as the Army's official ceremonial unit in 1948. Every available soldier in the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment participates, placing small American flags at each headstone and at the bottom of each niche row. Within four hours, the soldiers place flags in front of more than 228,000 headstones and at the bottom of about 7,000 niche rows in the cemetery's Columbarium Courts and the Niche Wall. We must never forget those who gave their lives serving our country.

My husband served four years in the Navy. One day our daughter was telling her (then) four year old son about Papa being in the Navy. With such concern in his eyes, he asked, "Did Papa die in the war?" She had to try real hard not to laugh so she could point out that Papa is still alive and well.

Thank you Bojel. Technically, your celebration is held one day ahead of the US Mainland because of the Time Zone differential, but it still falls on the same day!

The numbers are so many RIP and blessings to those who are serving now. Most all my male family members were in the military. RIP
