Remembrance Day and an old motor-bike

Yesterday was Remembrance Day and it is an important day in the Australian calendar. We attended the service in our small town and bought our red poppies. The service was well attended and the local young lad did a great job on his trumpet. It must be quite nerve-wracking for them. As we were leaving I spotted this old motor-bike. The number plate indicates that the owner belongs to an Indian Harley club. I liked the old-time version of a hard hat too. And note the puddle of oil under the engine. I hope it got him home safely.

In Paris there has been the most important celebration, the Armistice was signed in France the 11th of November 1918, 100 years ago.

@JudyEv Have you noticed the Trump grumpy face? He was upset with the French President. I have the feeling that the whole word (except Angela Merkel) is upset with Macron.

I'm sure he would keep it under lock and key at home so it couldn't be stolen.

I didn't notice the puddle of oil underneath at first, and I thought you had found another art sculpture to photograph! haha I think it is very important that countries continue to honor their military members who have made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom. Today's generation (myself included) don't fully know and comprehend what the world went through back in WWI and WWII, when evil was trying to take over the world. Our very way of life was at stake. Kids nowadays have got it good and aren't aware of the sacrifices that were made to ensure they have such a nice life.

@JudyEv Judy, there is no photo attached. I'm happy to hear that so many people continue to realize the importance of our past, and continue to honor and remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

ANZAC Day (25th April) is equally important in our country and I think it surprises everyone that the day has become more and more important as the years go by and more and more people attend the services. We went to a war cemetery near Pozieres in France when we were there and met a local woman with her three children. She takes them to the cemetery every year to ensure they never forget how the Australians saved their town and people. Here is a photo of us with the Mayor of Villers-Bretonneux. We are in the school-yard.

@JudyEv I very much understand Remembrance Day.We have two of ours and they are very sad days. The regular TV programs go off the air and only Remembrance stuff is on. But for the Holocaust survivors and Fall Soldiers and Terror Victims everyday is a hard day.

@JudyEv Since I came to live in Israel 32 years ago I have been through the Gulf War dragging a gas mask with me, two intifadas, and some wars. Even though there are hard times Israel is my Home and I would not go anywhere. I love this country and love the fact that it is my Homeland.

Remembrance Day, also called Armistice Day, commemorates the end of World War I. At the 11th hour of the 11th month, the Allies and Germany signed the armistice ending WWI.

We also have ANZAC Day on 25th April but that is really an Australian/New Zealand commemoration and doesn't involve other countries so much.

I took the photo so I'm really pleased you like it. I don't take as much trouble with my photos as Vince does but I try harder now than I used to. I got down on one knee to take the photo but then very nearly couldn't get up again.

I am assuming your Remembrance Day is similar to our Veteran's Day? I guess I could look it up. Great to hear you had a good time and got to see an old bike. That thing's decked out.
