Door Knob Malfunctioned

Yesterday (in my side of the Universe), the house main entrance door lock malfunctioned and I was not able to open it despite several attempts. Something went wrong so I decided to destroy it to be able to open the door. I am not an expert of this thing and not even familiar with its components but I would be able to install a new device if necessary. Let’s DIY! And because it’s Sunday, hardware and industrial stores are closed. I was not able to fix the damage so we waited until this morning to buy new door knob for the replacement. It was incidental expenses so much of my dismay. I really don’t like moments like these but I should not gamble our safety. The moment of repair comes. I was doing it myself and it was done (at least properly). No more carpenter services as it will still cost me for that small task. It was an unexpected call of duty for our own and I should respond accordingly. Photo Credit:pixabay.com

I would had probably first inserted an oiled key to the slot or pumped in some WD-40 lubricant into the keyhole slot using that tube that comes with it before deciding to break it.

Good thing, you have repaired it by yourself. At least, you didn't spend for a repairman. But of course, if it is something about electrical, it should be an electrician who should do it. Am i right? Unless, you know about electrical things also.

@SIMPLYD That minor stuff only. I won't with others. This is funny. I tried to make a table (just small) to where I can put my Turbo broiler while cooking. I thought it was just easy so I did the carpentry job with passion but it took me a lot of effort and error to finally finish the table. The bad thing was, it was not as sturdy as it should be even if with additional braces. Need to review T.H.E. lessons LOL!

I tried connecting light wires to its plug before (those bulb without switch and with plug instead) because I witnessed how an electrician do it but when it comes to other connections, it should be the certified electrician to ensure its safety.

I really don't know but the lock itself jammed and won't open despite several tries that's why I just decided to break it.

@ZedSmart well maybe next time you buy a quality door knob because sometimes carpenters just use the cheap ones.

I think that capacity and functionality depends also on the quality of the product. I think the carpenter install it with less quality door knob.

@Janet357 That would be. I hope that this one I personally bought would do the well. There's written in it that it has five years mechanical warranty and have a 150K life.
