Money Laundering

Story inspired by @xander6464 writing about laundry day. Hello, operator, could you patch me through to Alfonzo Capone please? Oh hi Al, it's Arthur, from the new laundrette on Chicago High Street. Your money is ready. We laundered it for you. You can collect it today. It wasn't easy. We are used to laundering clothes and bedding, but you said you were giving us an offer we can't refuse so I know a good bonus when I see it. Anyway, we tipped the sacks of dollar bills into the first six machines, poured in lots of detergent and put them on a full two hour boil wash. A lot of the cash came out torn, faded and clumped together in a big ball. I hope that is what you had in mind. Oh, some of it caught fire in the tumble dryers too, only about $40,000 dollars worth though. We put the coins in the other washing machines even though a lot of the dough didn't look in much need of a wash. The racket the coins made spinning round attracted a local cop on the beat outside and he asked me a lot of questions about the kind of outfit I was running. Naturally I told him all about you and your business partners who helped carry the laundry in here; Chainsaw Charlie, Mack The Even Bigger Knife, Concrete Boot Bob, and their chums with the violin cases. The cop said you might be hearing from him and his pals soon. As to your gold bullion, my young new apprentice said he had some special polish of his own for laundering that, and he took it away with him. He hasn't been back since but I expect he is busy making the gold look really good for you. So, feel free to collect what remains of your laundry. I look forward to doing more for you soon. Never heard you so speechless, Al. Is everything alright? Al, Al, are you still there? Call me back Al, Can you call me, Al? You can call me Al..... @arthurchappell Those people never forgot and they always punished those who did something wrong, just to show that you cannot escape their revenge. Nothing has changed in Sicily in our days.

I forgot about that song, Arthur. I've never seen him/them sing before, only heard him on the radio or albums. At first I thought the main singer was Chevy Chase. After listening to the link I forgot all about your laundering attempts until reading Anna's response. I'm glad to see that you don't know as much about money laundering as I thought you did

@MarshaMusselman that was very much the joke of the video, making it look like Chevy was doing all the work.

@MarshaMusselman yes, though Chevy is just miming in the video - it is brilliantly filmed

@xander6464 sounds like something to look out for though sadly the cops are looking in the washing machines - maybe they need to hide it in the dishwashers instead

Brilliant. I love the way you tie things together. Al Capone and Paul Simon...Two of my favorite people. And there must be at least one creative writing teacher out there who's now going to assign this, "Write a short piece, comedic or dramatic, whatever you want, that logically connects Al Capone and Paul Simon." And I'm betting that about one in every 5000 students can do it. And if they include something as good as Mack The Even Bigger Knife, they should get an A+.

At least with our new plastic fivers and tenners any unintended money laundering is not as disastrous as it once was!

the amusing thing is that the standard cut for laundering money is around what you'd pay in taxes, if you could legally declare that income...
