This is my last entry for tonight. I had a free lesson class booked by a mother.
As I entered the virtual classroom, I was totally surprised. That is, I am going to teach a 2 year-old-girl. For me, she's still a baby to learn the English language as a Chinese nationality. I tried to carry out the lesson and dive to the deepest ocean.lol It is too obvious that the child cannot utter any English words.
Without any second thought, the mother sent a message that I am teaching a "Thai English." What?!? Then she logged out from the software. Perhaps she is trying to say is, "Tinglish."
"Do you think that parents should be the one teaching their child at this age?"
"Do we need to force the child to learn a second language?"

Wow that must have been so cute to see the little one in front of the screen though. I would think it would be very hard to teach them that young. I think it would be good if she teaches them what she knows on her own until she is a little older. She might be a very smart child so the mom may want to teach her earlier.

It is really cute to see a baby on the computer's screen. However, the child cannot show her abilities during the class. I personally think that the mother should accept the real fact about it. That is, the child is not ready to learn the second language.

In the United States we unfortunately don't focus as much on learning second languages. But then we do speak English which is really sort of a universal language. If one can speak English, no matter what country they are from, they tend to have better prospects in life for whatever reason.

It will be just fun for her just like Spanish is for Sophie our little munchkin.
Really it should be a kind of game for her and wishing you good luck just take it in your stride.

She is on there for just a short while or have they changed their mind?
Perhaps it seemed like a good idea to them and we all make mistakes.

@lovinangelsinstead21 I think the mother needs to realize something about this situation. I am not blaming her to have such a lesson. It is a good way for self-realization.

Ambition at its worst, the child is way too young for online learning. We speak a few languages, our children pick them up naturally at a very young age (Around two) .. . We haven't taught them really, they learn from observation and experience at this age.

Knowing a second language is good but teaching a two-year-old child is nonsense.
A two-year-old child can learn two languages if the parents speak different languages. But then there is no 'teaching'.The learning comes naturally. One can only pity the child you met on the net.

i believe... that kids should be taught first at home rather than teachers in the institution. it is not a reason to be employed that one does not teach her child the basics of learning

The mother should be the one teaching her child; virtual classroom is not for her yet.

Honestly... I'm gonna side with both you and the mother on this.
In doing studies on children picking up other languages, its best if the child learns it before the age of six. The reason being is, as they grow and their brains develop, they are building little connections when they hear other languages. So later in life, when an adult, its actually easier for them to learn the whole language because the brain had already started building a road map in that direction as a child.
This is why, I gladly play music from other cultures in other languages to my kids as babies on up. I don't have to understand the words. The kids don't have to understand them. But hearing it, actually helps learn the sounds and flavor of the language.
So, to answer your questions....
Yes, the parent should be teaching the child at that age, but not in a typical method you'd think concerning sitting in a class room approach. Play a movie with another language turned on, music in another language, etc, are sufficient as a basic background noise to learn from.
Kids don't need to learn a second language, but its probably to their advantage if they do. My kids know a number of words in a few different languages. I hope as they get older, they can expand on that if they so wish.

For me, there is nothing wrong if the mother wants her child to know the second language. But then, it should be done by her. A good example is my little niece who had learned the English language. My family and I decided her to know this language first before the official language. I must say that it was a successful one.
She had learned it at home. The family is hands-on in teaching her the universal language. I hope the child's mother will realize this.
