When a person pays money to be out of custody on bail what does the court do with the money?

Bail money is like a deposit. If you show up in court when you are supposed to you get it back. The court doesn't get to spend it. At least that's my understanding. I'm sure someone else on here can verify or refute my answer.

@pitstop They don't get it back if they jump bail in which case, I believe the bail money would be forfeited.
