Oh, Christmas Tree

In the back of my mind, I go back in time. I am a young girl again, visiting with my grandparents for Christmas. I can still see the tree, it was beautiful to me. It was a scrubby red cedar, cut from the pasture. Probably four or five feet tall, and almost as wide. Grandma had a star with lights. And the old fashioned bubble lights that looked like candles, kind of. Ouch. . . they got hot and would burn you. I do not remember much about her ornaments, but for the final touch the tree was lavished with tinsel. Probably at that time it was actually made of foil, not the shiny plastic we have now. I imagine the foil ones were not any better for the environment, but they at least would break up and crumble with age. I have not thought about those trees for ages. It is still a very old fashioned and homey memory to have. This is just a small part of some Christmas posting I want to do. It just got triggered for me as I rummaged in my shed for the poinsettias I bought on clearance, planning to add them to the wreaths from last year. Memories just came tumbling out. So I will share. Oh, and Happy MyLot birthday to me. On this date thirteen years ago I made my first earnings here. I was so excited, just like Christmas.

I am always tempted to slip out down the street and cut a cedar. There is a whole field of them close here.

Memories come back during the holidays, this is why so many people get depressed. I did not realize that it is so long time you are on myLot, Happy myLot Anniversary.

Memories of the past or high expectations tend to lead to depression.

@GardenGerty It's because too many are no more, this leads to depression.

Happy anniversary! You were raised with love. Thank you for this description. This is what I attempt to put into my Yule short stories when I write them.

When I was small our traditions did. To include a Chirstmas tree. The first time I remember having a tree...I was about seven years old. My parents bought two glass ornaments. They were beautiful.....one was a deep rd satiny finish globe with white polka dots and the other was elongated with a hollow. Over the years both ornaments were broken.

Mom had some very delicate decor that was gold and deep blue and reminded me for some reason of a peacock. You do not see any like those any more.

That sounds like a very wonderful memory to have!!! I still remember my grandmother's white artificial tree she had... for decades!!! I can remember some of the antique bulbs my mom and grandmother had used on their trees. I loved putting them on!

I may just remember that one year vividly. Yes, we always had lots of food. Probably at least one whole pie each and some to spare.

Usually I refuse to think about anything Christmas until all the Thanksgiving birthdays have been celebrated. Both my kids, my sister, and my brother just a bit earlier in November. I am just excited to get my wreaths out. It is a new tradition for me that I began last year.

Our Christmas tree while growing up, had those same bubble lights, that heated up and yes, I got burnt by touching one. Tinsel back them, we'd save it from one year to the next! lol I'm not thinking about Christmas yet, but have many fond memories in my mind. Happy 13th 'My Lot Birthday', to you:)

Yes, we very carefully saved the tinsel. I want to get my wreaths out in this patch of warmish weather this week. Other than that, not really thinking of Christmas.

@myklj999 or @Owlwings can give you more exact details. It did get sold for a while and was not paying and was not fun, full of spam. 2015 it was bought back by some of the original people and has been going strong ever since. I never cancelled my account.

@GardenGerty I heard about the time that someone else owned it and it was not fun or paying. Just glad that it is paying again and is fun :) That's great though that you stuck around through that
