Oh, Christmas Tree, post 2

Jumping ahead a lot of years, I grew up and got married. I married a poor sailor. Expenses were high in Southern California, but we managed to afford a small tree and a couple of strings of lights. And one box of plain ornaments. Ever the inventive one, I topped the tree with a little china figurine that had come on a birthday cake I had. She was beautiful, with a green velvet dress. Hoarder and sentimentalist that I am, I had saved all the bows from my wedding gifts. I put one over each tiny light bulb on the tree. It was a lovely effect, the ribbons glowed with a soft light. I was young, poor and in love.So that was our tree in 1973.

I was married and I still lived in Italy, we had just moved to a new big apartment, we had a beautiful tree with decorations that my husband had from the days he was a kid. That was the year we invited my family, the family of my husband and his single cousin to have dinner at our home for Christmas Eve, my first really important dinner for many people.

@GardenGerty A happy moment of my life, the last time we celebrated all together. One year later we moved from Italy to France.

True love between 2 people and the effort to make a tree has more significance than any expensive commercial tree..

When I was a teen, my mother was Jehovah Witness. We didn't celebrate Christmas for many years. She left the church in the month of December. We had no tree or money. With my babysitting money I bought a string of lights, some garland, and a small package of ornaments. I tacked the garland and lights to a wall in the living room. It was in the shape of a tree. I added the ornaments. With the little bit of money I had, I bought gifts for my 4 siblings and my mother. It was the best Christmas.

I was just thinking of my childhood when we had no money. When I compare that with the kind of life I have now honestly those were happier days.

I was not that happy as a child, I do love simple things still, though.

it looks like the tree is very beautiful, because you decorate it well, maybe you decorate it with love

That was a very sweet account. Our first tree was a small table top one, but like you said, we were poor and in love.
