Daughters Devil cat...11-15-'18

I have always loved cats. In fact it is probably why all my children do too. They grew up with cats always around. I only switched to dogs when my last late hubby was in the hospital and I got Bear, my lab. My last hubby had said " It's either me. or a cat" so of course I picked him. Anyway we have had hundreds of cats. So when daughter bought this one from the shop home, I was mostly concerned about the financial aspect. She said it was for therapy and love. I couldn't argue with that. BUT, that cat has been a terror. Never saw such a mean cat. It bites and claws anyone that tries to love and pet it. My daughter has tamed it down a little but sometimes it still bites and claws her. I have the extra burden of keeping my bathroom door closed or it will pull my stopper from the sink and reek havoc in there. etc. It quietly sneaks around in my room and gets up on things and steals things like my glasses, breathing monitor, anything small thats not nailed down gets under my bed and reaches claws out to grab my feet. I will wake up with her on my feet or legs at night sometimes but dare not go to touch her as she will open her mouth to bite or reach out to claw me. gives daughters bf just another thing to scream and slam doors over. I am not sure if my breathing is worse over sudden allergies to her or just the weather as now I practically live on Allegra ! I can't say much about it to daughter now as she is attached to the darn thing. Just saying and getting it off my chest. literally .

I watch this guy on youtube who goes into people's home and looks at why the cat behaves as it does. It strikes me that the behaviour is often connected to the environment. Watch a few and see if there is anything that resonates. They are called "My Cat From Hell." He even found out one cat was learning disabled. Cats seem to act up for a reason. People put up with a lot from their cats. They cannot talk human so they communicate in other ways. This sounds like a very traumatised cat. It is possibly stealing as it is stressed. Did you say you had a lot of other animals, including dogs? Have a look at what might stress her out. It might even be a bid for attention. Asthma gets worse with stress, so the stress of the cat behaving like this could well be a trigger. Either way, it sounds like something has to be done.

now i remember watching that back a while ago. no other pets live here with us now. this cat has been like this from the beginning. my daughter says the cat is very jealous. wanting full attention. but how is that when it is just the 2 of us, cat and I in my room? really?

@bunnybon7 Maybe pre-empt is by giving the cat attention before it asks?

probably. might be half wild cat coming from around here. like a mountain cat could have mated with a domestic.

@bunnybon7 The best is to ignore the cat when you are not sure that it's safe to pet her.

I had one named Prissy. She was my baby, but not anyone elses. She never outgrew attacking people for no reason.

@bunnybon7 Prissy would rub on them and purr away. Then suddenly sink teeth and all 4 sets of claws into them. She was a beautiful pure white cat.

My inlaws use to have a cat like that and no one could touch him except the immediate family. He was a very nasty cat but so beautiful as his fur was all black and so shiny.

It sounds like it's still a kitten in it's teen years. Give it a little more time as it is acclimating to your home and you. I've had cats and kittens like that and it's because it's frightened for one thing. It's having a difficult time readjusting to someone who actually cares for it rather than being on it's own. Having someone scream and slam doors at it isn't going to help the problem any, the cat is emotionally terrified as it is. When it reaches out to claw or bite you tell it a firm "NO" and slowly withdraw your hand. It's in the wrestling mode which it would normally do with it's litter mates. Also someone who had the cat before you might have wrestled with it and made it think that was okay. My Petey will sometimes do that with me (he's still a young man cat) and I will slowly draw my hand away and tell him "No". He's slowed down on the clawing and biting a lot. The stuff of yours that it's stealing is stuff with your scent on it. It's out of affection and also the need for something with your scent that gives it security. If you have a pair of really old socks that you have worn one more time and haven't washed them, roll one of the socks up into a ball and give it to the cat. It will help give it a sense of security and "home" and that you aren't going to give it away again. It's like a small child with insecurities and once those are set aside it should be much better and less of a terror. I hope this helps understand your little terror... every once in a while one comes along that needs some educating. Also has it been spayed or neutered yet? If not it is something to consider doing soon. That will tend to settle it down a LOT!

yes i know. had cats for years in the past. she has settled down a lot. daughter is still teaching her as it is her cat. the cat and i have some what come to terms. my daughter calls me grandma to the cat in fact but she, the cat, Lily, still does not let me pet her much. plus not sure i should as i am starting to wonder if i am allergic to her now. have been having to take a lot more antihistamine lately. i sometimes wake up with her next to me sleeping. i am not the one slams doors. daughter bf does that and yells. i am good as i can be to kitty,Lily.

@bunnybon7 I figured from your initial post that you wouldn't be the one to slam doors and yell. Most people who are cat people aren't door slammers, I don't let door slammers in my home for the reason that it scares the daylights out of the cats. And, as you stated you have had many many cats through the years- no traumatizing Lily on your part! With all the fires across the U.S, it could be particulates from the fires that are causing your increase use of antihistamines. I'm asthmatic and have been using mine a lot more lately, but there are still the particulates from my fire that are still in the air. I'm pretty stuffy right now and it's a combination of cold and asthma and reaction to the left over soot, ash and smokey smell from the fire here. Petey will sneak down to the home site...well what is leftover from the home site... and prowl around bringing some of the particulates back in his fur. Humm, it's 10 a.m. and it's about time for my BF to get out of bed. He may have had a rough night of it last night, when he does he usually sleeps even later like until 10:30 or sometimes even 11 a.m. Well, he can sleep peacefully as I am doing quiet work like answering posts and things like that. My next thing is to work on the bears so I can have them ready for delivery on Monday. So I guess I should get off to work. Hugs

How old is this cat? My mother had a cat that was really mean like that. My mother gave it to her mother when my sister was a baby so the cat wouldn't hurt her. It was always mean to everyone except my grandmother but like you said with your daughter it sometimes it clawed her too. It used to sit atop The banister and swat anyone who went by.

@bunnybon7 I thought the naughty things she was doing sounded like a kitten. Was she a stray? Sometimes they claw easily for protection as they are just scared of humans.

Oh my - beware of the mean cat! Our friend's family had a mean black cat named "Poe". We'd rarely see it when we were over because he'd hide. They warned us to not look for him either, because he might scratch or bite.

I'm terrified of cats, especially cats like the one you describe. I never knew why til my dad told me when I was a toddler we had a cat that jumped off the couch and clawed me all the way down my back! The cat went out the door that day and apparently I had a subconscious fear of cats ever since!!

@bunnybon7 I don't know, my dad said it was just a mean cat and that was the final straw... Oh I know, I'm a dog person and they are so sweet! My Rottweiler loves to kiss us, she's amazing with kids and she's protective when needed. =)

I have bad news. Ms. Character cat likes you. She wouldn't choose to plague you if she didn't find you a ball of kitty fun. I'm not much help cause I like Monster Babes. Sorry. I have a cat who was not raised with a kitty person and you bet she will bite through my hand if she is ticked. I wish you much luck.

It sounds like whoever had the cat before your daughter adopted it was very mean to it and this is its reaction to humans @bunnybon7 . Persistence and kindness will conquer. Lots of toys and a scratching post.

Some cats are like that, and being a kitty, she may need to be trained, if that's possible. Doodles, the love of our lives, sent my son to the emergency room twice after ripping the veins in his wrist and biting through a finger. Now, he is as good as gold. We learned the warning signs when he doesn't want to be touched and run away as fast as possible. lol

I was always told that animals are just like humans, only mean if you do something to them. But as ive gotten older, ive realized that thats false about humans, so must be about animals too. Hope the cat stopped robbing you.

I have two cats that I adore. One of them creeps around at night, jumping on me in the bed. I have to find a way to stop her form waking me. She is jealous of the other cat that sleeps with me. But she will not sleep anywhere but on her bed. Oh well, the saga continues.
