I attach the only Youtube video I have generated (with the help of Vanny and DJ) that has gotten a thumbs down attached to it. My heart breaks. What is wrong with it? I think it's a cool song, though the recording quality might suffer a bit (Michael's and my fault). If you can access it, let me know what you think of this one. I wrote it, and I actually like the song. It's in a style in which I usually don't sing (Western Swing). But it's a "happy" song. Vanny and others have complained that I tend to write (and cover) sad songs. Feh, I say. I am generally an optimist, and it is my right to record sad songs. Everyone needs balance in their lives.

It's a very nice song and I like it! Even songs that are considered great songs and sell in the millions get thumbs down on YouTube. That's just the way it goes!

I just hope that at least some like my songs. Some will come from different musical cultures (even within the US) and many might not be able to relate. Did you enjoy the song itself?

Your post reminds me of a comic strip I saw....years ago. Lynn Johnson's "For Better or Worse"...... Her daughter had a new hairdo.....every girl she met all day complimented her on her beautiful do......the the class grump told her it looked horrid......within moments she had pull Ed out the new hairdo and told her mom that Everyone!!! Hated her hairdo. This seems to be human nature.....we are more apt to absorb a negative comment (thumbs down) then to cherish the compliment.

I like it - and what's wrong with a happy song? I can't listen to 'regular' country music for mnore than 20 minutes because it makes me feel like crying. It's not a conscious thing; I just start to wonder why I feel so miserable and depressed and then I realise that someone has put some country music on.

There is an old saying "You cannot please everyone all of the time." I have made some kind comments on You Tube saying "nice video" and the person tells me "I am not a fan of (state your heroes name). Now go away." I always call them Poor Devils.

Most of my 'music' is also considered quite dark and melancholy. It's just the way I view the world probably, and as the old saying goes in any writing, "Write what you know." I liked the song. Thanks for sharing it.

I present (to most people) as an optimist, with just a hint of cynicism. I think my music shows my "suppressed" side, which can be a tad dark. I also sometimes like to listen to "angry" music (Warren Zevon and James McMurtry, for example), but I haven't (yet) written any angry songs.
