white flags in the rice field

i just passed a rice filed and saw so many "white flags" in the rice field. now war ine here and no body gives up. they are indonesian scarecrow, some people make statues like real scarecrow, but some only make plastic flags and put them in the rice field, not to scare crows, but to scare the sparrows. sparrows eat rice seed and it may cause big loss for the farmers,

around here, they tie a piece of shiny tinsel to scare off birds. or basically something that reflects the sun.

Yep, I've seen those too or similar like it here in the Philippines. when the wind blows, the fabric on the flag sways and moves with the wind, It scares off pests and animals that could end up damaging the rice plants.
