It's become a fashion with Preiti these days

Since August this year Preiti has stayed away from food for several days at a time although showing no signs of illness whatsoever. She plays around, sleeps well and active as ever. But concerned about this peculiar pattern we have started giving her drips. She is due a drip now as she has not been eating again. Her Vet is confused and just cannot fathom what this is all about. She enjoys all the pampering.

Hi just dropping by to catch up with a few people. You must be so worried about Preiti. How old is she now?

Is she losing weight? Does she still drink water though to keep hydrated at least? What happens if you give her a favorite treat or food - does she still refuse to eat?

@allknowing My dad has always said that animals know better when to eat than us humans - they know their bodies better than we do. Maybe Preiti has the right idea - she is eating just fine and the rest of us are eating too much!

@much2say Just when I was planning on getting her a drip I saw her pushing her empty bowl which I later filled with pedigree. She ate quite a bit of it. I do not understand her at all but the only consolation is that all this starvation has not made her sick.

Water she never misses - very fond of it. No matter what is given to her she will not eat. This is the first time we have a dog who behaves like this. But we have accepted it and all is well.

Maybe she is attention seeking.. Sometimes pets do that.. just guessing.

I wish I knew why she is doing that. She is a pampered soul even otherwise (lol)

@sofssu Even her Vet is confused but as long as she is enjoying good health we are fine with it

If she is healthy, may be she feels the need time by time to avoid food. May be it's only an age related matter.

This is rare as I have never seen any of our pets staying away from food for so many days and yet remaining healthy. We have accepted the situation now.

@allknowing I never had pets, my grandparents always had dogs and cats, but I never noticed if they regularly ate their food.

@LadyDuck As I have said already Preiti is the only one who stays away for days like this.

That may be to old age if she seems fine otherwise. I'd do drips, too, just because you love her so much, and to be on the safe side.. She deserves to be pampered.

Poor Preiti. This is really strange behaviour isn't it? I wonder what the problem is.

I do not see any problem really. She is normal every other way and so I will leave the matter alone.

@allknowing I would be trusting her to know what was best for herself too.

Maybe she has learned that she gets extra attention from it.

We have had so many dogs in our life but this particular behaviour is new to us. She will eat well for a few days and then taper it to zero and stay that way. Not knowing how many days she will starve herself we do not want to take any chances and so resort to this drip idea and all is well. Expensive though (lol) The Vet comes over.

Or she is sick, mostly pets who do not like to eat has something bothering them. Just like a human, if we are not liking to eat meaning there is something inside us that bothers us.

That kind of not wanting to eat is different. This girl just stays away for days with no signs of illness - a first of its kind in our experience We have had several dogs before but none behaved this way. We have accepted it and a drip will take care of any vitamin and other deficiencies.
