In August I had an unexpected opportunity to travel from New Zealand to Southport on Australia's Gold Coast. I was there for a week, enjoying weather temperatures in Spring that were more like mid summer temperatures at home. On my last full day there I had almost run out of supplies in my apartment, so decided to treat myself to breakfast at The Surf Club in Surfers Paradise. The cafe offered an all you can eat breakfast for a very affordable price. Of course I ate far more than I needed to, but that meant I didn't need to spend money on food until dinner time. I sat across the road from the beach, enjoying the view as I planned the rest of my day. These days I find the places I choose to eat at are really important while I'm on holiday. This place was definitely a highlight of the trip. If you're ever in Surfers it's a place I recommend for breakfast.

An all you can eat meal is a real treat from time to time. It would be nice to be able to spend some time touring Queensland. We've only seen very small portions of it.

@JudyEv I had limited time, limited money and had gone to see my son. I did enjoy staying 500 metres from the 2018 Commonwealth Games pool in Southport

@JudyEv and talking of the back blocks, following on from The Ghan I'm considering a sunrise sunset trip to Uluru later next year

@valmnz We'd head more for the back blocks if we had our 'druthers'.

@valmnz Sounds like you had a great time. How long does it take to get to Australia from New Zealand?

I fear I will never visit Australia, but thanks for the suggestion. Where you eat while traveling is extremely important. In the United States we used only to have breakfast and dinner, we always skipped lunch. Too much food is not good.
