A bluebird with attitude

We have fairy wrens that enjoy bathing the bird bath that sits in the garden in front of the window where I sit at my computer. One has taken to feuding with his image in the window. In the process he drops little bits of poo all along the window sill. I’m sure he is trying to join up the dots. He does this at most of the windows in the house. He must think he has a lot of competition for ‘best fairy wren’. This only happens if the curtain is closed to stop the glare in my eyes. I have started to give the curtain a flap to scare him away but he comes back almost immediately. But I haven’t seen him since I put my ‘bluebird with attitude’ ornament on the sill. If he stays off the sill, I have several other bird ornaments that I might put on the other window sills. I wonder how long this will deter him. Somehow I don’t think it will be a permanent solution. And sorry about the quality of the image.

What a little pest, some birds have an attitude.

@JudyEv My little red robin has an attitude. When he comes to eat no other bird can approach the feeder.

@LadyDuck There is a pecking order at our bird bath, both literally and figuratively speaking. The robins oust the little wrens and the even tinier silvereyes are at the bottom of the scale.

They do don't they? A decent puff of wind would blow the little fellow away but he is very persistent in his antics.

Ours never got that close to the window as the dog would try and chase them off. Hope the remedy works for you though.

@JudyEv Oh dear. Is he still fighting with his image in the window then? If our dog was there he would soon fly away real quick.

It's another of those tiny creatures with hugely inflated egos!

I get birds on the railing of my deck but I have never seen one on the window sill, I am not sure I would want the bird poo on my sill either lol

@JudyEv Oh yikes yes, we have blackbirds so big here I worry they could carry off my little dogs.

It washes off quite easily so things could be worse! It could be a crow landing there time and again.

@BelleStarr Our wedge-tail eagles have been known to carry off small dogs.

What's a little poo? (You can probably hear me curse when I put my hand down on the deck railing in the morning and there is sparrow poo all down it.)

It would be okay if it were a LITTLE poo. But it's not a big deal really. I scrub the sills from time to time and it comes off easily.

@JudyEv I know and there have been times when I accidentally clean the deck railing with my hand as I head down the steps.

Those ornaments kind of act like a scarecrow as the bluebird's fine feathered friends can attest

The effect didn't last for long though. The little bird is back but that's okay. If that's the worst thing I have to deal with I'm very well off aren't I?

@JudyEv Yes Judy, I'd go along with that.... At least you have a pretty bluebird as a friend.

I have been told to hang holographic streamers to deter the birds that fight with the windows. For us it is usually cardinals.

I think the wren has got over his fear of my ornament. He is back again.

That was a great idea but like you said it probably won't deter him for long. It will fade out the pretty bird decoration you have in the window as well.

I probably won't leave it there for long but it does seem to be keeping him at bay at the moment.

Oh those droppings could always be cleaned I would let the bird sit on our window sill This cuckoo spent hours perched on one of our fans in the hall.

It probably will only be a temporary stop. I put our an owl statue and for a few days it kept the squirrels away. But, one day I went outside and there was a squirrel sitting on his head.

Haha. That is very offensive isn't it? Sometimes you think animals do this sort of thing deliberately.

It's not too big a deal. We don't have bird feeders as there is no need but the bird baths are well used, even in winter.
