Man what a mess

Confession time I wanted to use up some Rice Krispies and some marshmallows, and some marshmallow creme. Rice Krispie treats of course. I was melting the butter, marshmallows, etc. even some peanut butter in a pot on the stove. The marshmallows were stubborn. I shut the burner off and left the silicone spatula in, and came back to the computer for a bit. Except. . . I left the burner on. I NEVER do stuff like that. My pan is burnt, the spatula melted into the peanut butter and marshmallows and butter. Those little marshmallows still held their shape. Yikes. The pan is almost clean. Hubby brought me more marshmallows, I threw out the mess. Think I will melt everything in the microwave this time.

You are lucky that it did not start a fire, butter usually starts a fire.

I had a hot grease fire once. This was not unattended long enough to become dangerous and I am glad.

@LadyDuck I ended up using a fire extinguisher, and opening the back door.

@GardenGerty I also had a hot grease fire, I am glad I was close, I immediately put a lid on the pan and opened the window.

That would have been extra crispy rice krispy treats . Makes you wonder what crazy ingredients are in those marshmallows that they were holding their shape up better than the silicone spatula! Well, I hope the clean up wasn't too difficult.

@much2say They were a bit dried out, but they may have been before I froze them.

There is still a little burned on in the pan. The marshmallows were old and had been in my freezer. Probably its molecules were changed by age or freezing, or maybe I was just too impatient.

@GardenGerty I've never thought to freeze marshmallows - I wonder what they feel like when they are frozen! Maybe they needed to be thawed!

Sounds like a good idea. Some people just shouldn't use the electric stove.

Mine is a gas stove. I should not cook and compute at the same time.

I still had the cereal to use up, so hubby got me more marshmallows. And there is still cereal left. I may make something else on Tuesday.

Yes, it must have been plastic rather than silicone. I have never had a silicone one melt.

It could have been much worse for instance if it had boiled over on top of the stove.

That's why I stopped using rubber utensils years ago. Have fun using up the next bag of marshmallows.

It took a minute and a half in a pyrex measuring pitcher, 2 quart size. So easy.

Yikes! And yet those marshmallows stayed the same. That's scary what they were made of. When I have burnt on food, I boil some water in the pan with a softener sheet. It cleans them very well.

I do not use softener sheets, but I have heard that works. I got cold water in the pan quickly and almost all came out. For the last bit, I put vinegar and cold water in it. It came right out.

Oh man, what a shame, and what a waste. Things happen when we try to do two things at once. Believe me I know.
Forgot that there was oil on while checking Facebook. What a load of crap.

I had an oil fire once because I was warming it up, covered, while I took a shower. Took the lid off and whoosh. I do not know where my kids were. I do know how to use a fire extinguisher.

I have had disasters like that. Our minds seem to trick us into believing that we shut the stove completely off when in fact it was turned on low. The smoke alarm alerts us to our failing. UGH.

The pan is too good to do that with. It will come clean. Hubby has burnt fudge in it more than once.

I always feel like rice kripsy treats never work out when you do them alone. I have tried it too and it was just a mess! But when I made them with my old best friend or my nieces everything went smoothly. They deserve a buddy system, plus it is more fun that way!

I do not have any body to buddy with. I have not made them since I was doing product demos in stores. I used an electric skillet and they were easy as can be.
