How FragranceNet.com lost me as a customer

I'm not big on perfume and cologne. Too much of it gives me a headache, whether it's on me or someone else. But I do wear just a touch of Bvlgari on most days. It is not overpowering and has a touch of musk and a touch of patchouli to it. I've bought from FragranceNet before, and they got me on board yesterday with their email that said "Free Shipping on All Orders!" I decided to go with the smaller 1.7 oz bottle, which had a sale price of something like $35. Click to checkout and...a shipping price was added! Aha! Bait and switch. The free shipping only applied if you bought the product at the regular price. I carefully clicked out of the site and decided to take my business elsewhere. If you're American, are you old enough to remember the ad (I think it was for margarine) that ended "It's not nice to fool mother nature!" or something like that? Well, it's not nice to try and fool The Horse! Have you ever gotten ticked off at a business or product and decided to take your money elsewhere?

Yes, I have. If they offer a deal it needs to be honored. I do not do a lot of fragrance stuff either.

I was bummed that they did that. The price was still OK, but I don't like being manipulated.

@wolfgirl569 Oh, we have Hobby Lobby. Is it for political reasons?

What are some of them? I can rebel with you.

Sure, if I feel cheated, they can forget to make business with me. I also dislike too strong perfumes, but I like a drop of Musk Perfume, Musk by Alyssa Ashley is pretty good.

@TheHorse It's my favorite, I use Musk soap bars, and must shower gel.

I would probably like that. A subtle musk is one of my favorite scents.

Yes, pushy sales people always drive me away. Presumably the pushy approach must work some of the time or they would have stopped using it by now, but it just makes me more determined that 'No means no!' If I've said no once, and the sales person then tells me that I'll never get a better deal elsewhere, or I have to choose this now because I'll not get the chance again, it just makes me even more determined that I will take my custom elsewhere even if it costs me twice as much!

I think Bvlgari is a good perfume, but yea, being told FREE SHIPPING ON ALL ORDERS, is like Kroger saying in bold letters, 88 cents for a 2 liter Dr. Pepper, only you have to read the smaller print below it that says, Minimum of 3 bottles required for the discount. Otherwise you buy one and it costs over a dollar fifty cents per 2 liter bottle and you look at the prices of other items that say Must buy 5 to get the discount price. Who ever thought of this kind of marketing should be taken to the people's court, or the tennis court and let the tennis balls fly.

I like the idea of a kinder, gentler public flogging. I have some extra tennis balls here.

@TheHorse , Yea. This might work. , I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of those tennis balls from an automatic throwing machine people use when there's nobody else around to volley the balls.

I've gone for a free item before and found the postage to be well over what i thought it ought to be. I went elsewhere too.

Would you like to buy a pair of custom guitar sound hole coasters? The cost is only $1.00 US, plus $1,000 shipping.

@TheHorse I'd love to but just at the moment I'm rolling in coasters (In the words of Four Walls, see what I did there?)

Sometimes it's the principle of the thing. I've shopped other places just to make a statement, although probably no one but me cared.
