A Horse Stepped on my Foot!

Today, after horseback riding, I was tying up the horse I rode and he stepped on my foot! I immediately pushed him back and he must have done it unintentionally, because he quickly lifted his foot when I pushed against him. It hurt like heck, but so far it looks like all that happened was a big bruise across my toes. I'm glad I wear heavy, leather boots when I ride! It happened at the stables where I ride, pictured above. I realized that, as I was typing up the horse, I was standing between him and the equine water fountain which he was trying to reach. My mistake. After hanging around horses for over 30 years, this was the first time one stepped on my foot! I wonder if our fellow MyLot member @TheHorse has ever stepped on someone's feet! LOL

That hurts. I have had it done a few times. But some will try to do it.

@wolfgirl569 - I don't like to think the horse did it on purpose, but maybe he did and I am just being naive!

@DeborahDiane We have one mare that sometimes will lokk you in the eye and then try to get your foot. I also have one that likes to try to nibble my shoes

@wolfgirl569 - I would be a little irritated with that mare! LOL We used to have a horse which would try to bite you when you tightened the girth. Eventually he got used to it. Never had one that nibbled our shoes!

A horse is a heavy animal, I am glad that it's nothing serious.

@DeborahDiane It surely was an accident, the horse did not intend to hurt you.

@LadyDuck - No, he didn't mean to hurt me. I could tell, because he lifted his foot almost instantly. It still hurt, though!

@LadyDuck - Yes, it could have been much worse. The horse pulled back as soon as I pushed it. I think it was an accident.

Ouch! Our older son had his foot stepped on by our neighbor's horse when he was 5 years old. He never cried or said a peep. Instead, he calmly walked down our driveway and into the house. We had no idea what had happened. I found him crying in the family room, but fortunately, he was ok.

@DianneN - Oh, no! I'm sure that was very painful for a 5 year old, especially since he would have been too young to push the horse away, like I did. I'm glad he was OK!

@DeborahDiane Yes, thank goodness he was okay. That was one huge horse. Our neighbor and his daughter stopped by to say a quick hello as they were going for a ride. They never knew what happened.

I have a very misshapen big toe nail because it got stepped on once too often by my pony. Some are a past master at stepping on your feet but mostly it is accidental.

@JudyEv - Yes, I think I was just standing in the wrong place and the horse wanted water. I'll be more careful next time!

@JudyEv - It is helpful to know your horse, so you can sometimes prevent those problems. I sure won't stand between this horse and the water fountain again! LOL

@DeborahDiane Our Shetland would often tread on your foot when you were girthing her up. You'd have to get the girth really tight because she was so rotund. You would sometimes push her off-balance and she'd put her hoof out to balance and usually land it on your foot.

@DeborahDiane Even though it was not intentional I bet it hurt even though you had heavy boots on.

@Hannihar - Oh, yes, it hurt! I limped away from the barn that day and I was still limping the rest of the day. However, everything was find within 24 hours, so I know he didn't break any bones. I was lucky, though!

it seems like a very funny event ... I never experienced that, because I never rode a horse

@Ieny34 - It was only funny after I was sure I was not permanently injured.

Ouch that must have hurt. Good you had boots on. As you say it probably wasn't intentional.

@valmnz - No, I'm sure it was not intentional. I was just standing in the way of the water. I'll be more careful in the future! LOL

Thank goodness for riding boots! Horses are so beautiful but so much larger than we are. Hope your foot will be fine.

@JohnRoberts - Yes, it hurt like crazy when It happened. I soaked my foot in water with epson salts and, fortunately, it seems to be OK.
