Last week our myLotter @miketagz turned 32. Given that he was born in 1986, I thought I'd celebrate by highlighting my favorite albums from 1986. Obviously, Mike isn't going to care for any of these albums (he's probably never heard any of these albums!), but I'll use any excuse to do a countdown. Here's the next album. #4: It Came From Nashville - Webb Wilder I like a whole lot of different kinds of music. That's one of the things that I love about 1986: as the albums on this countdown point out, there was a wide variety of music available then. I listed to everything from synth rock to neo-traditional country. One of my favorite sub-genres back then -- and even now -- is "roots rock," the throwback to simple rock and roll, with guitar, bass, drums, and short songs. It celebrated the origins of rock without trying to sound like the Stray Cats. (Not an insult to the Stray Cats: I saw them in 1988.) When this album came out I was immediately hooked. Although the album title says that it's coming from Nashville, this isn't country music. Oh, it might pass for it in today's world, but no. It's just good, straight ahead rock and roll. Even the "country" song on here ("The Devil's Right Hand," written by Steve Earle) doesn't sound "country." Webb's long been one of my favorites. I guess I've seen him a dozen times or so over the years, and he never fails to disappoint. It Came From Nashville Recorded by Webb Wilder Produced by R.S. Fields Here's a song from the album written by "Romeo's Tune" singer Steve Forbert:

Is it my imagination but I do I hear rockabilly influence in this tune? I immediately thought late 50s southern rock sound.

Probably. Both Steve Forbert and Webb Wilder are from Mississippi.

Thanks for sharing. I can't remember any hit that was when I was born.
