We Don’t Like To, Anymore!

Last year, we had our Christmas decorating contest at the office. I even posted pictures here . It was stressing actually. So, two weeks ago, there was a memo that we will have a Christmas decorating contest again. Everybody reacted negatively. We all don’t want it anymore! The theme is Candyland. No one has even started decorating, but we are all required to decorate. Okay fine, if that’s what the mall manager wants. With our department we will just have a simple "salago" (a native all branches tree) to be decorated with lollipops and candies in a small net pouch. I will also bring the white Christmas lights I bought for the contest last year and put it in that small Christmas tree. That’s it - less effort , less stress, because anyway consolation price is PhP1,000.00 ($18.86). So we will spend less than that. Maybe for some of you who are creative, what else can you suggest for us to decorate at our department - themed candyland? Note: picture is from google

After I typed my comment another idea came to my mind. Create small Christmas tree using white, pink and light blue cotton, like as they were made by cotton candy. You can make a cone with the paper and cover with the cotton.

What a very nice idea Anna. How do we color the cotton? What do we use?

@LadyDuck Wow really! I think i should ask our purchaser to canvass for the colored cotton. If there isn't I will let him canvass for the colored spray.

@SIMPLYD Colored cotton is for sale here, but I think you can buy a colored spray and color the white.

Which one the Candyland theme?

@amadeo Salago is a small.tree that has thin branches. The leaves wete pulled out so it will all just be branches and be made a.Christmas tree. Then , we paint it white or just the tree's color minus the bark which is somewhat cream. Then we decorate. It's a lot cheaper than those commercial Chriatmas trees sold in malls.

You better hire Miss Arbie to do your decoration and give her a big lollipop as "balato" when you win :)

if you find cardboard tubes, you could paint them to look like candy canes

@ledante None at all. We saw the Fixed Asset Dept. doing that yesterday. So, we will not do it anymore. They might say we are copying their ideas.

I always get enthused to put up Christmas decorations. Sad that you are less enthusiastic this year. Will you have decorations in your home?

Since our daughter stays in Manila and now a doctor, I don't decorate for Christmas anymore. I let my gay brother-in-law do the decorations. He is more creative anyway.

And HR should have first asked each department head if they can still do it, considering that November is a busy month for things to be done in the mall in preparation for Christmas time.

Sounds like a nice idea.. If it is stressful maybe you should keep it simple.

My other staff told me this morning that he will do the decorations he has in his mind. Materials will be the scraps from his cousin-in-law's printing shop. I told him go for it.

Because thinking and doing the decors is stressing. I don't want stress. Besides, my department - Procurement is busy with requests for Christmas.

You have a vivid memory! Indeed, now that I head the procurement department were requests are always rush, I decided for a non-fuzz decoration. The rest is a big tarpaulin c/o of my staff, whose cousin is one of our supplier for Tarps making, sponsored by them.

Yes, that is true and I so agree with you. Christmas is busy for the employees and the decorating time is during breaks and after office. I would rather go home early and rest at home than be decorating still at the office. Simple decors will do.

@ilocosboy The first prize is 5k , 2nd 4k and third 3k. Never mind if I am so stressed thinking of what to decorate and preparing them.

It just okay if the prize is 20k or higher, but 1k is too low for the given effort and artistry.

You know, even the best thing in the world can turn into the worst if you are forced to do it. Guess you should try to make the best of it, don't think too much about that. As for the decorations, I can't help, I only set up the Christmas tree with my wife and that's pretty much it.

That's okay, friend. One of my staff asked my permission for him to make the decorations. So, I am happy but told him, I can't help. He said it's okay. He has an idea so I give the floor to him. The consolation price that will be given he said , will be for our departments' happy night at the grill station of the mall.

Thank you. I think so too. That is why, I already told everyone that we will be having real lollipops, marshmallows and little chocolates as decors for our small Christmas tree. They all heard me and that served as a warning for those who will copy.
