“Get It On (Bang a Gong)” is the best known song by Britain’s T. Rex. Written by lead singer Marc Bolan, the song appears on the 1971 album “Electric Warrior” and reached UK #1 and US #10. In 1983, Power Station fronted by Robert Palmer enjoyed a hit cover at US #9 that was heavily played on alternative radio. Blondie performed “Get It On (Bang a Gong)” live in their early years. This black and white footage is from July 7, 1979 at Convention Hall in Asbury Park, New Jersey. Blondie’s version is not as good as T. Rex or Power Station. However, neither Marc Bolan nor Robert Palmer ever looked like Debbie Harry and certainly never wiggled like her.

The things you learn. I always thought this was just a Robert Palmer song. By the way, Blondie's got some very short shorts on. Hmm.

Yeah, that seems to be a "hey, let's do this song! By the way, does anyone know it??" moment. Those are great moments, though.

Well, I'm sure the ladies found Mark Bolan pretty sexy too! A great example of "Glam Rock." Just check out the wild costumes and gyrations in the T-Rex video. Fun Fact: The Turtles Volman and Kaylen sang back up vocals on that tune....
