It is funny to me how so many places in the desert, in multiple states, have the word “devil” in them. At any rate beyond what the name implies, this trail was a beautiful one and am so glad me and my group went.
The Devil’s Bridge is a natural sandstone arch that sits at 4800 foot elevation, 50 feet up from the ground, and a supposed quick 1.8 mile hike. Many choose to walk across the bridge. Others, like me, chicken out!
We were not able to start the trail from the trailhead due to it being on a rocky “high clearance vehicles only” road so we had to take a walking trail to get to the trailhead. Once we made it through to the actual trailhead, I was shocked to learn we had to climb rocks to get to our end location of the arch. Very steep and crumbly rocks! I was gasping for air while reaching the top for sure. Even though i am moderately fit, uphill is my kryptonite.
The view from up top was amazing. Pictures definitely do not capture it and do not show the view “down” with justice. It was frightening. I originally wanted to cross the bridge but decided once I was up there...nope.
What struck me as crazy as I struggled my way up those rocks, the incline of the trail was only 400 feet. Maybe it made it harder since all 400 was at once and not spread out. But so many other trails and peak hikes go into the thousands. Can’t. Even. Imagine. We ended up doing about 6 miles on the hike and the pre-hike and that felt plenty.
Have you been to or heard of this one? I would absolutely suggest it if ever in the area of Sedona, AZ. One of their most popular trails.

I live in the Chihuahua Desert at the TX/NM border area. I don't hike through the desert cuz it's just not my thing but I remember when I was younger I did and boy was it hot and exhausting, it didn't help that I didn't have enough water with me.

I've heard Sedona is a beautiful place with a lot of history. Did you collect any stones while you were there?

I have heard of the buses in Panama being called "Red Devils" but I have never heard of the hills that you mentioned in Arizona.
